Car Audio Cock Up

    Hi all,

Long story short is I got a used TT recently and ended up buying a Sony Bluetooth head set with iPod connection (which it turns out doesn't charge the iPod  ) as I'm into my iPod sounds, the original Audi system didn't have an Aux in function and I needed to install a Bluetooth hands free anyway so the Sony seemed to fit the bill and do both jobs.

The muppets who sold it to me are supposed to be "qualified fitters" so they took the car in in for a couple of hours and installed the system. They gave the car back to me and the sound is totally cr*p. It is distorted and full of static/feedback even at very low volume levels. I brought it back to them and after some blank looks and scratching of heads they said it might need new speakers as the new head unit was more powerful than the old one. This tells me two things:-

    1. They didn't test the sound when they fitted it
    2. They don't know what they are doing otherwise they would have ensured the head unit and existing speakers were a match before selling it to me and certainly before fitting the head unit.

Needless to say I didn't let them near it again so now my big question is who can I get to install a new set of 13" speakers which will (supposedly) enable the unit to function properly and give me the type of sound I expect from a system like this? I've been told In Car Tech in Bray are good but their phone line seems to be disconnected.

Anyone got any suggestions of someone who knows what they are doing car audio wise?

    Regards,

    Ben

Installing speakers will not cure the problem, your new headunit is not too powerful for the speakers, it was either fitted incorrectly or a faulty unit.
Don't bother fitting new speakers, if your old headunit sounded ok before the replacement was fitted your speakers are fine.

Replacing a headunit is plug and play provided the correct wiring harness is used.

I would recommend popping in to safesounds in Drumcondra, expect to pay to have the unit fitted correctly.

    Neil.
