Modern Mini Car Club

I've just bought a new Mini Cooper and was looking to join a car club, for a bit of socialising. I was a member of another club with my previous car, and really enjoyed car runs and discussions, but my new Mini is not the same make.

I was looking to join a Mini club, but there only seem to be 2 that I know of in Ireland. One of them actually charged a membership fee, which almost made me fall off my chair. The other seemed so boring I almost fell asleep reading it.

Now dont get me wrong, im not the racer type looking to show off a modified or souped up car. But kids in a car club or on a run is ridiculous to me. So is a membership fee for watching kids at a car club. If I have mentioned your club (irishminis.ie or miniclub.ie I mean no disrespect, it just seems like a boring site for old-er people with lots of kids.)

Does anyone know of a Mini club in Ireland that seems geared more towards the younger crowd, but not the boy racers?

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

PM ned78. He's a regular on here and he runs a MINI forum. He might know how to direct you to a club that would suit you

You want to socialise, but you're against members bringing kids out on car runs? Most of the time car club members are in their cars driving, so 'watching kids' - that's not really an issue. Plus, out of the 20 or so events my club run a year, you might see kids on about 4 of the events. Parents need a break from their crotchdroppings too from time to time, and car clubs allow people to do that.
I was looking to join a Mini club, but there only seem to be 2 that I know of in Ireland. One of them actually charged a membership fee, which almost made me fall off my chair.

I suppose we're the club that charges the extortionate membership fee ... but it's only 50 Euro and for the money, you get a membership card, mug, stickers for your car, full access to the website, regular texts that notify you of the monthly events both in Ireland and overseas, and discounts for Ferries, Health Insurance, Electronics and White Goods, School Books, Furniture, Car Insurance, Genuine Parts and Servicing, Garden Centres, Coach Hire, Electric Bicycles and much more.

I think that's value for money, especially considering out of the 2 clubs in Ireland, we're the only one that has an event every month that both MINI and Mini drivers are welcome on.

If you've been reading our site and have assumed it's older drivers, it's far from it :) We have the lions share of our owners in their 20's and 30's, with some of the older guys driving the classic shaped Minis. In fact, at our Christmas party last sat night, we had an average age I would say of around 28.

Plus, the MINI and Mini appeal to drivers of all ages, so it would be very hard for a club to exist without having a diverse cross section of society.

Why not just pluck up the courage to go to an event and see for yourself? My club doesn't charge a membership fee if you just want to come to an event and see what it's all about and if you like the people - and not to mention we're all off to MINI United which is a car and music event that will be dominated by around 7000 people in their 20-30's celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Mini in Silverstone.

Just jump in, worst case scenario, you won't like us, and best case scenario is that you'll have a ball out on one of our track days, or nighttime treasure hunts :)

In fairness OP most car clubs charge a membership fee to cover administration etc. As ned78 said you get a lot of discounts included when you buy parts etc so it would make up the 50 Euro quite quickly.*

*I dont own a mini just talking about car clubs in general

Cheers for the info ned78, could you pm me the website of your club? It definately does not sound like the one I looked at, and I would be interested in checking it out.

    Thanks!
