    Maybe of some value:

    http://firstlook.3tier.com/

Shows a range of speeds at different mast heights with a targeted 68% accuracy. Uses Google maps as the mapping component, so Ireland is covered (for Wind, not their solar maps). Requires registration, but free.

Thats great. Unfortuantely they don't have my immediate area covered (West Cork) yet. That data is available on the OSI website or on the SEI one, but not at the lower hub heights offered here which would be of interest to domestic wind turbine installers.

Where exactly did you check? The "Firstlook" component will work anywhere, the Assessment itself wont. I just checked West of Blarney Cork and it gives me:

    4.7 - 7.4ms at 20m Height.

Sorry - yes, the first look part works OK, but a range of 4.7 to 7.4 is a huge range, and anyone using this tool to assess a site for wind turbines would want to narrow this down a bit.

The turbine I have at home provides 3877 KwHr per year at 5 m/sec mean wind speed, and over twice that at 7.854 KwHr per year at 7 m/sec.

I don't think the ESB and OSI ones are any more accurate as there are other factors such as roughness class, local topography and the odd tree that must be taken into account, but they provide a rough guide (except that OSI want you to pay and don't guarantee their online map at all).
