I did my work experience in CRANN (centre for research on nano...something or other. Making small yokes anyway) in Trinity. It was pretty awesome, I was put to work making tips for electron microscopes and was given a tour of the lab and shown the various projects worked on. I really enjoyed it and it really got me into science. It was a good mix of chemistry and physics and all really interesting, I'd recommend getting in touch with them and asking if they could take you on. Email: keelin.murphy@tcd.ie
