    Guys,

How much should one pay to have a timing belt done on a 96 1.3 irish lancer... I have had prices between 235 - 300 euro quoted to me..Bit extreme.

    Thanks

Including parts and labour for a timing belt it doesn't sound too unreasonable. I don't have experience with that exact car, but 200-300 seems reasonable for a timing belt on any car.

Not too unreasonable I would be thinking. Recently got my timing belt done on a Vectra. Had only loose change left out of 500 and it would have being more only that I sourced the parts myself as cheaply as possible and the mechanic was reasonable with me...I shopped around well. There are extra parts you need to replace on the vectra such as water pump and tensioner pulleys which bump up the cost.

My last car was a corolla petrol which I would imagine would be very comparable to the lancer and as far as I recall it was about 200 to get done at the time so when you factor in inflation after about 5 years....sounds about right maybe.

Labour is no doubt the biggest cost as there are a good few man hours in it so do definately shop around and even for the belt itself. Halfords were the cheapest when I was getting mine done but they may not stock a complete range either I'm thinking.

Nothing wrong with that price - how much did you expect?

    x2

that sounds a reasonalbe price if its a reputable garage doing it. its a very laborous job and thats usually why its so dear, the belt itself is usually cheap.

make sure they are doing the waterpump too though.

Can someone advise on a good garage on the Southside of Dublin to do the job for me?
