Just wondering what people think of the payouts in MMA in comparision to boxing? Seen the UFC 94 payouts & the top boys make decent money alright but the likes of Stephan Bonnar who helped bring MMA to the masses only got $22,000. Not much for someone who has been out injured for a long time. I take it your average pro mma fighter would at best fight between 2-4 times a year? I take it it wouldnt be to the benefit of MMA & fighters if Afflication goes to the wall as the UFC could pay fighters what they want due to lack of serious competition? Here is the payouts for UFC 94 for those interested.

    • Georges St. Pierre - $400,000 ($200,000 to show, $200,000 to win)
    • BJ Penn - $125,000

In the short term Zuffa should reward themselves as much as they can considering that they were the one’s who took the risk by investing $100 million IIRC in re-establishing UFC. Not to mention all the man hours they put in. While remuneration may not completely equitable compared to other more established sports at least UFC pays medical bills for fighters and has been fairly “charitable” in how the deal with fighters (i.e. not letting people go before Christmas.) When this sort of thing comes up people will always say that fighters know what they are getting into, no one is forcing them to do it.

Why would they spend so much on John Fitch and only put him on preliminary card??..I know what happened before Christmas but still though..

I know not totally the answer you are looking for but his contract probably says he gets paid x amount per fight.
