    Hey,
I don't know if his is the right section to be asking this in, but my dad asked me to look into printers for him. I don't have a clue bout them and looking around there seems to be a million and one options. Basically he just wants to print off some ads with photos. Now this wont be on photo glossy paper or anything so it doesn't need to be of the highest standard ever. I think he may also want to scan some photos in, so one of the multi-scan/print jobs would be good. I know some ink cartages cost a bomb too, so a printer that has cartages that aren't too pricey would be good too!

He'll be picking it up in a shop over here, so no links to online shops please! It will probably be an Argos job to be honest! Having said that, he might settle for it being ordered from Dell, if there printers are any good?

Even advise on which brands to avoid and which ones are good, would be handy ;)

    Thanks!

Epson Sx100. Good print quality, decent scanner also.

Best way to get good value out of ink is to get a continuous ink flow system (if the printer will be used a lot) or to buy refillable cartridges will a few bottles of ink.

    Example for the sx100

I have a Dell AIO 920 and my Dad has a Dell AIO 940 (or is it a 942?). Both are decent printers but they are basically just re-badged Lexmark printers. They do printing/scanning etc, and the Dad's also does faxing, plus has slots for memory cards (reduces the need for cable mess!).

Biggest issue with these is the cartridges - at one point you could only buy replacement cartridges from Dell and they were not cheap. I say at one point as I have not checked recently!

If I was purchasing a new printer I would start by checking out what cartridges were the best value on the replacement side... and then buy one of the printers that match. You'll find nowadays that printers/scanner/etc are really cheap (as per the Tesco link) but the extras are where they try and get you.

Maybe call a cartridge shop? There are a few in Dublin.
