The 1000 Mile TEAM Challenge

    Hi guys,

Basically I'm a saddo - so let's see does this fly.

In the intersets of setting some short/medium term goals to aim at on the way to the 1,000 mile challenge, AND in the interests of keeping some of the people lower down the table motivated I have decided to unilaterally instigate the 1,000 mile challenge team competition.

I have divided the participants of the 1,000 mile challenge up into three teams. I could have selected teams any which way but I decided to put a few of the people at the top into a team, a larger group from the middle of the table into a team and the rest of us, the great unwashed, into a huge team, where by sheer numbers we may be able to overcome our obvious failings in terms of individual mileage.

I took a snapshot of the 1,000 mile challenge some time this morning (Wednesday 4th Feb) and have "written" a spreadsheet that will do all the sums for me. If there is any interest shown I will keep it updated every week or so, it may help to keep us motivated !! If there is no interest shown then it will just be another unloved thread lost in the vast emptiness of the internet.

The team challenge will run until 30th April 2009, for simplicity I will make all the rules, I'll decide what to do with any new members to the challenge.

There will be no need for extra updates to be made by anybody, I will take everything I need from the main 1,000 mile challenge thread.

Now every mile you do really counts, no matter how far down the table you are. Below is the initial league table and a list of who's on what team.
    League Table

The Mid Riffers - 2,780.30 Miles

    Riff Raffer :(......

Riff raffers - harsh! Although I would put my money on them, especially when the likes of Peckham and a few others get going....

    Riff raffer!!
If only I had updated my milage I'd be up with middle guys.

(At least I'm the best of a bad bunch....big fish in a small pond...etc)

So how will you work additions to the challenge? For example Ciaran15 just slided into the top 10 with a subtle 300+ miles .

Where do they go? Does someone get moved to the Mid Rifters etc...

Look a month ahead and picture that 1000 main thread, how will the team look then?

    ;)

Great idea but I have my money on the mid riffers with the likes of racing flat, rusty cogs,gerard65 and stupid private who have been injured or sick for the start of the year and then you have Amadeus and Krusty but I'm game as from this week on my milage is only going in one direction and thats up ;)

Nah, Riff Raffers all the way. There is so many of us that we'll easily thrash the other teams just by sheer weight of numbers.

    Nice idea :)

yeah, between you and MDS'ing Odysseus, the midriffers look to have it all sewn up.

Doubt it - I've done nothing for a couple of weeks now except drink silly amounts of brilliant german beer :)

That said Odysseus, Krusty, Rusty and Peckham all turn in good weekly totals... Must go find a white cat to stroke...

Well i'd say my miles are down by 120 miles , so once I get going maybe able improve the riff rafters...

My idea is that you don't move team at all, if you're a mid-riffer you stay a mid-riffer for the duration, the team competition is over at the end of April so if there is interest we could redo teams then.

The main point is that if someone is stuck near the bottom of the table they have a motivation to add a few miles to help out in the team competition.

I don't know what to do with new additions, we could leave them aside, we could add them into one of the existing teams at any stage, it will be a simple case of adding them into an existing team nobody else gets moved.

I think the mid-riffers are favourites, and to be fair all it will take is an injury to one of the High Milers and they are straight away under pressure, but don't write off the the rest of us just yet, a little extra effort by the lot of us could win it.

I intend doing 50+ per week April to Oct. Just doing 30 odd at the moment. I'm sure there's a good few others like me who are ticking along now and will up their game for the summer marathons.

I agree, the mid drifters or what ever you have called them have it sown up.
All the guys and gals in the top group are either doing ultras or marathons in march,Come april they will all be resting up and the mileage will be severely cut.

Who the hell decided that i should be in the main group ?
    I' not even doing a marathon...i dont belong !

great idea aoa321, anything that adds a bit of crack/motivation to running and the forum is fine by me
could be the difference between just looking out the window or getting out for a run on one of these bad nights

I reckon the odds are as follows:

    Mid Riffers- Evens

    High Milers- 3/1

    Riff Raffers- 6/1

I'll put a monkey on the Riff raffers.....;)

Yeah but the team challenge ends at the end of April, I'll take the responses to be positive and I'll add the team updates onto the main thread, I'm putting the new guy (and his 300 miles) in with the High Milers.
