    Guys,
I just saw on the TOQ website that bradley wiggins is a long way back -- Can someone explain how this happened was it just a bunch spilt. I only took notice because their are no hills on the course and its a big gap.

their are very strong winds across the tour of qatar. bradley wiggins was probably in the wrong place at the wrong time when a gap occured, and grew into something massive.

as there are time bonuses at the TOQ, wiggins does not have a good enough sprint to contend for these, therefore moving up in the GC will be difficult.

Folks, it's one of the first major pro races of the season. Lads are only warming up, getting used to team members, strategies etc. I mean I had to laugh at the amount of people who were saying Lance Armstrong was going to wipe the floor at the Tour Down Under. Even Cavendish yesterday was way off the mark. Alot of riders will have set themselves different goals throughout the season and obviously will only be focusing on them. They'll use these races to build up to them.

shapez put it nicely, its only a big race for certain riders.

Boonen has a bit of history here so is racing v hard to be in the front group when the splits happen.

some serious echelon racing going on, you wanna know how to ride echelon watch ToQ. Cervelo are putting in some great, hard racing miles.... they look very well organised with lots of the team making the fron split each day.

as for wiggins, once you re not in the hunt for a sprint.... the drive isnt there to try hang on in such a flat race. there is only so much space across the road for 20 or so riders in an echelon and so if you re in the gutter its only a matter of time befor eyou re spat out the back and its sit up and wait time !!

I would say garmin were very pleased with the TTT win and first gold jersey for wiggins.

Yep, a lot of Boonen's targets are early in the season, such as Milan San Remo and the Tour of Flanders. Quick Step have always used Qatar as full on training race. Every year they go at it hammer and tongs.

Mind you, according to Cavendish, he wants to be in the hunt for these races as well, but every rider is different.

Didn't Cav have a puncture yesterday?
