Japan can be cheaper but the hassle of it being so far away you likely will be going on someone elses opinion of the car without actually seeing it, there's also a 6-8 week or more delivery time, then you have to sort out import duties and freight costs.

    NI v UK
In my experience Northern ireland is more convenient than UK and also handy just being up the road in case you have any issues.

    Exchange rates
Get the sterling rate from your bank, then compare with currency.ie as they have been used by several car buyers. Basically shop around for cheapest offer. You will save a few hundred euro

    RAC
Push your car dealer to throw in an independent RAC test, cost you 200 pounds normally but costs him a lot less.

    VRT
Keep a printout of the cheapest car of the type you are buying, same year etc on carzone and present that as evidence at vrt office if they overestimate the market value of your car. They will reassess vrt charged or refund overcharge. save you a few hundred again
