You can yes, however it does not read it as a DVD or CD, simply another "disk". This does however work with things such as the DVD player without any issues.

(for the life of me I cannot recall the name of the app used to mount them... disk manager or something : Applications --> Utilities)

"Disk Utility" - which is indeed under Applications => Utilities. You can mount any ISO from there, it's pretty straightforward...

So IF one were to, lets say, download a program from piratebay and said program was in an .iso format then one would have the ability to mount the program on a mac? (and subsoquently upon success pay for the license to use the program:))

So long as it's a Mac Compatible app then yes, no problem.

Doesn't Stuffit allow you to mount ISO's too?

well from a pure unix point of view, which is what OSX is, you can do it running the following command(as root). Please note the directories may be different on your computer:

    mount -o loop /home/user/image_file.iso /media/disk

image_file.iso is the file you want to mount, and /media/disk is where you want to mount it.

I have not used a Mac in years so can not tell you how to do it using the GUI.

to be honest, most things that some people may download from TPB are in .dmg format for mac.

as far as im aware, .dmg is more widely used than .iso for mac

Yeah .dmg is far more used then .iso, but in the case of an ISO cropping up, usually DiskImageMounter will handle it.

Certain software that requires the CD to be in the drive may not work, Toast however mounts ISO's as CD's :D

Yeah I use Toast for mounting too
