Sterling - Bureau de Change or ATMs?

Which is cheaper? Changing Euros to Sterling in a Bureau de Change or withdrawing sterling from an ATM in Northern Ireland?

A friend of mine swears by the ATMs but once I withdrew sterling using an Ulsterbank card in the UK and the fees were pretty hefty.

For larger amounts, the ATM, but some of them charges "extra" fees.

    Link are normally good.
