    Hey all,

I have a Digital Rebel XTi (400D is the European name for it I believe) and am looking to get some lenses to round it out a bit.

The first lens on my shopping list is the Sigma 70-200 f/2.8. Best price I've seen online is on sigma4less.com. Has anyone ever gotten anything from there before or can they recommend a good spot to get it for a good price :).

After that I am thinking about getting a wide angle and\or a fisheye so completely open to recommendations on that.

On the wide angle my first thought is the sigma 10-20mm (noticing a sigma theme yet?! :))

On the fisheye I don't know if I would be willing to spend 300+ for it yet.. Anyone know of a good one going second hand for a decent price :D (And yes, I have an adverts.ie subscription so I get a mail every time a new item is posted to photographic equipment for sale)

    Thanks!

I can heartily recommend the 70-200mm. I have this lens and it's an absolute cracker. I got it on ebay so cannot give any tips on where to get it but that price seems pretty ok. If you can, you might as well pick up a 1.4x converter as well now cos you'll want it pretty soon anyway:)

What's the advantage of a 1.4 converter (never used one before :D)

It turns your 70-200mm f2.8 into a 98-280mm f4.0 when you need extra reach. If you're using it for field sports then it's ideal for the extra reach and on a reasonably bright day the f4 will be perfect. On a really dull light or floodlight event then you'll have to use the 70-200 without as you'll need the 2.8 for shutter speed.

Ahh ok, that makes sense alright!

Anyone have any suggestions on the wide angle side of things?

And because the 400D has a 1.6 crop factor, this means that the 98-280mm would actually be 157-448mm.

Remember that the extender will cause a 1 stop loss.

A few here, including myself, have the Sigma 10-20 & it's a good solid lens & great value for money. I use it quite a lot.

Cool, thanks for your thoughts, has anyone used sigma4less before? Can't seem to beat their prices anywhere else but always wary of sites no-one's used before :)
