Bad timing to be doing this, I would have thought?
Presumably Ford will do the same here?

Shooting themselves in the foot a bit.

Though it is in fairness to do with the weaker sterling. Everything imported to Britian is going to get more expensive as a result, not just cars/parts

Ford probably will in March, but only as a usual price increase. The UK increase is down to the strenght of the Euro against Sterling so it's more expensive for Ford UK to buy the cars in (presumably they are set price in Euro).

My Dad bought a new Focus last week (lives in the UK). Got £5,000 discount off the list price of a 1.6 Zetec Sport. Prices might be going up, but I bet no one is paying anywhere near the retail price.

Audi also following suit in the UK
    Audi Price Changes

    (Mon 26 Jan 09)

The fall in value of Sterling relative to the euro has forced Audi to announce an average price increase of 2% across most of its model line-up. The increase will apply to orders placed on or after February 23, but not in the case of the S4, A5 Cabriolet, Q5, RS 6, Q7 or the forthcoming R8 V10.

To help compensate, Audi is offering free upgrades on selected models between now and April 31. The A3 TDIe is being upgraded to Sport specification, the A4 SE to Executive SE, the standard A5 to Sport and the standard A6 to SE, all at no extra cost despite the four-figure differences in list price.
