i've recently decided to give myself a static ip address
so that my router wont hand out a dynamic one to me (DHCP)
i do this so that ports will be forwarded correctly to my pc.

(isp still give me a dynamic ip, but as far as the home network is concerned my pc has a static, others remain dynamic)

now once i have made myself a static ip address
    www.aerlingus.com no longer loads.
    so i revert to dynamic
www.aerlingus.com works again ( i note my ip address, 192.168.1.110)
i assign this ip adress to my pc as staic
    www.aerlingus.com no longer loads!

    bizarre, nes pas
    anyone know whats going on

some other sites appear to load more slowly, including boards.ie??

    (ryanair works fine!! :p)

    EDIT:

After thinking a bit more, I would suggest that you check your default gateway, DNS etc. These maybe set differently by DHCP.

Also try pinging aerlingus to see where it resolves to with a static vs. dynamic. Maybe the DNS cache is doing something strange.

What subnet mask did you set? Is it something other than 255.255.255.0?

Does your router support static DHCP assignments (handing out a specific IP address to a request from a specific MAC address)? That may be a better way to achieve your goal.

    hi guys
    thanks for the help.
on the network connections i had the preferred dns server set to 192.168.1.1 which is my router, worked fine for most things.

so i changed my preferrered dns server to 83.147.160.2
and everything works a treat now!
    nice:D
