Can a show be even more bland when repeated? :P

Looks like it - their schedule now lists Lunchtime as the repeat at 10pm - http://newstalk.ie/newstalk/schedule.html

I presume you're referring to Dunne's feelgood show? Bland epitomised. How is it he get's to play music on Newstalk? I thought that was one of the stipulations of them getting the licence in the first place - clue being the name NEWS/TALK - anyone shed any light on this?

No, there was nothing in the licence conditions which stated that newstalk could never play music.

(There were of course stipulations that it couldn't just up sticks and become Newsbeat 106, where George Hook would shout random insults over a bangin drum n bass riff for an hour before Ger Gilroy presented 3 hours of Balearic beats if the ratings were slipping and the Talk format wasn't a goer. Pity really. A hooky/Portishead crossover would rock. )

The music played on the station takes up so little airtime as to be inconsequential anyway, really, and it's not the first time it's happened either. There have been irregular incidences of records being played on the station long before Dunne's arrival.

I hear you but do you not get the feeling it's only a matter of time? The odd tune here and there, lull you into it, sort of frog in the pot of slowly heated water, before you realise there it is - George and Eamonn, Dr. Dre and Terminator X. I also remember Montcrieff being absolute on the no music thing on a few occasions, and he cited this very reason. Can't do it.

Can't see how an extra 2.5 hours of eamon keane is an improvement.
