Insurance claim advice needed

Myself and wife have 2 cars. She was involved in a crash and damaged both our car and another car. She was driving the car where I am the policy holder and she is the named driver.

The insurance co wants to settle the claim for the damage to our car against my policy and settle the damage to the other car thru my wifes policy (on our other car).

Wondering if this is the norm as I'm concerned that both our policies will be affected at renewal time ?

FYI - both car are covered by different insurance companies.

    Thanks

 Tell them to fcuk off!
What a brass neck. The insurance company is trying to limit their own payout by spreading the cost between them and the other company. That will hammer your policies for next year!

It's called dual indemnity. If you wife is a named driver on your policy and her policy covers her to drive other cars with third party cover then
    - the damage to your car comes out of your policy
    - all third party costs are divided equally between both your policy and her policy

This is the norm generally :(

(this is a simplistic explanation of dual indemnity pretty much)
