Hi im currently with Esat BT but my internet always goes randomly. It has been happening for a year or two now and i am looking to maybe switch suppliers. Does anyone know who the best currently is? Would like one thats good for games and never craps out!

Also the BB going into my computer is from a secondary port not the main one(comes off the main one) but always fails. Would a company fix this if i switched provider?

I currently use smart, its pretty good bar the initial probs getting it set up in the house. Eircom have just had that court thing so i wouldnt go for them or they may cut you off for downloading. your cutting off issues may be what ever way you have your bb set up, as in is it wireless or cabled? whar router you use etc.

What ports are you talking about? Telephone sockets, or ports on the modem itself?

If the modem is not plugged into the main phone socket, this could be the problem. Also, every other piece of equipment connected to a phone line should have a filter on it. If the problem is with your line itself, then switching to another provider won't help. Did you contact BT about this problem, and what did they say?

What do you want from your ISP? What are you using the service for now?

Telephone sockets, the main one is in the hall then one is in my room but connected to that. My problem at the moment is that connection the wire from the box came loose when i was fixing it and i dont know where it goes or connects to.(blue and green wires)

Anyway thats a different issue that i cant fix without paying Eircom a **** load to push two wires together :(

Ive always had problems with the connection, ive ran them so many times when it just randomly goes for days(main line as well) so was thinking of changing to avail of any better deals.

There actually is filters on all the sockets but the line still goes when someone picks up the phone.

This is an issue id love to find out about. I think (but i dont know) that there are electricians who are capable of doing this.

This may be a job for the yellow pages.

At least one of your filters is dodgy. Disconnect everything, except the modem, then try one phone at a time to find the one that's causing the disconnect.

Their is, we had a guy who worked from sky that done nixers(that phone socket and tv ports etc) but he didnt return the call this time, must try him again.

I'd say its an easy job for someone that knows what their doing. I cant find a relevant picture on the net to describe it.

Ok, well the copper is notoriously crap there (lots of stories as to why [lines made of alloys, flooded exchange, long lines from exchange to home] dont know which one is the biggest problem.....all could be contributing). If your interested Magnet (uncontended) is available there, this will get the most of DSL line.

No idea mate.....id really get onto someone who knows and make sure that they know what theyre doing.

Either that or call eircom and get them to fix it before you switch.

Until you get your internal wiring fixed properly you will not be able to assess how good your line in actually is. Chaging provider wont make the slightest bit of difference until you are sure that everything inside the house is ok.

This is true, at least to some degree. You really need to fix the wiring first, at least then you will know where you stand.

Would it be eircom that would do this? pretty sure they own the lines.

Any ideas on what they charge?

You would really need to call them (1901) or call an electrician who specialises in this field.

Eircom are only responsible for the line to the first connection. The internal wiring is your responsiblity.
