Trust Me

Just after watching the first episode of Trust Me and while it at first it seems to be little more than an updated and lighter version of Mad Men it turns into an extremely enjoyable and entertaining series which holds a lot of promise.

The central performances by Tom Cavanagh and Eric McCormack are fantastic and it's especially nice to see Cavanagh getting more than a supporting spot. McCormack is immensly likeable and the chemistry between the leads makes for a very enjoyable 42 minutes.

Was gonna give this a try last week.. as I'd watch Tom Cavanagh in anything (one of the most under-rated TV actors working today).

But I heard the pilot was pretty average. Will give it a watch this evening though.

Cavanagh is great, I'm a big fan of his Raw Feed film Sublime and lets not foget the superb Ed and his guest appearences in the criminally cancelled Eli Stone.

While no one is every goign to accuse the first epiosde of brilliance and it's nowhere near the calibre of Mad Men it is however easy going, entertaining and the perfect fodder to watch over lunch. Along with the Mentalist (The best new show of the past year in my opinion) Trust Me is one of the few shows which I've lloked forward to and not had to lower my expectations after watching.

I really need to catch up with The Mentalist.. never even finished the pilot! :o

While we're discussing Cavanagh, I saw him in a fantastic "Colombine-esque" TV movie with the equally excellent Ben Foster a few years back - Bang Bang You're Dead.

    Very very good..

Will give Trust Me a shot later anyways.

I was going to mention Bang Bang You're Dead. I picked up the DVD a few weeks back and have been meaning to watch it. I was informed just there that the miniseries The Capture of the Green River Killer that Cavanaugh stars in is showing up every other week on sky. They couldn't tell me what channel only that it was quite good and "that guy ffrom that show about the alley was in it". Took me a few minutes to realise they were refering to Ed.

Edit: Go watch the Mentalist. Simon Bakeralaone would make it must see Tv but each episode just gets better and better. i know a lot of people accuse it of being a rip off of Psych, but The Mentalist is far more intense and does'nt play the situation for comedic value.

Mentalist <> Psych, not by a long shot. The mentalist is quirky enough and fun at times, mainly down to the charismatic Baker, but it can still be dark as hell sometimes. Fantastic show.

I'll give Trust Me a shot later this week... sounds good to me.

Gave a friend a lend of my harddrive last week so he could watch the Mentalist after doing nothing but berate it fopr being nothing more than a shoddy kncock off of Psych. Since watching the first 7 episodes he has'nt shut up about how good it is.

The greatest shame about The Mentalist is that the shows success has given a boost to Baker's film career only for the dreadful The Lodger to be his first new film released.

Indeed it is - crime dramas (or "procedurals") are typically not my thing at all, but given the high praise the Mentalist received in other threads here, I got fully caught up on it over Christmas and now follow it weekly (it's been on a bit of a hiatus for the last few weeks though but it'll be back next week - Yay :)).

As for "Trust Me", I've got the pilot and been meaning to watch it but I might just wait for another couple of episodes first - I have a "three episode" rule in sticking with new shows and after that point decide if they get dumped or I'll watch them :). And since I'm one of the five people on the Internet who has not watched "Mad Men", there won't be any such comparisons for me :D.

I cannot recommend Mad Men enough. It's absolutly sublime fully deserving of all the praise heaped upon it. Like Dexter, Prison Break and a select few other shows I cannot follow it while it's airing as I can't watch just one episode. Picked up Mad Men on DVD (after watching the first 2 episodes when they aired first and loving it) and watched the entire series in one sitting stopping only for bathroom breaks and to make food. The DVD is going cheap in most places these days and I demand that you buy it asap. :D

It's on my list of things to watch, I promise :D. So many shows, so little time!

In the latest episode of "Psych", Sean talks about how he was going over to his Dad's to watch 'The Mentalist' marathon :)

The two shows aren't very much alike at all - which allows me to enjoy both, without feeling any sense of rip off. Indeed you could almost say 'The Mentalist' is a bit closer to 'Law & Order: Criminal Intent' which also features a highly-observant detective who notices small minutiae.

Tom Cavanagh is always brillant in everything - must a look

Watched it last night... started off liking it, then tired a bit of it and then it won me right back with Smashing Pumpkins at the end.

Tom Cavanagh is excellent as always, and Eric McCormack is very good in the role given that I would have only associated him with the tripe that was 'Will & Grace'.

Jason O Mara was hamming it up.. but he is admittedly quite fun to watch (
for the brief time he was in it
    ).

Will definitely keep watching.. episode 2 was on last night in the US by the way.

    IMHO

New series need a few episodes to find their rhythm. I'd like this to do well - I'd welcome something new, that isn't a police procedural.

Watched episode 2 last night and really enjoyed it. For some reason the chemistry and relationship between Cavanaugh and McCormick reminded me a lot of that betweeen Matthew Perry and Bradley Whitford in Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. Though hopefully Trust Me will last longer than one season.

Not sure I should watch the two episodes now and possibly enjoy/get invested in the show. Seems ratings are in a free fall:

And we know how trigger-happy US networks can be with cancellations... Though the fact that it's on TNT rather than one of the big main networks might give it an extra period of grace - we'll see soon enough.

Is there going to be a second season or is it dead in the water?

Well.. give this a read.. and take from it what you will!
The trade paper says that "Trust Me" (which it confusingly calls "Truth in Advertising") is in first position for McCormack (an Emmy winner for "Will & Grace"), but it isn't expected to return.

Trust Me is no more. We won't be getting a second season.

Just after watching the last few episodes and the decision to air episode 13 was a big mistake. Had they left it after episode 12 the show would have ended on a poignant moment and given soem closure to all the characters. Then along comes epiosde 13 and were left with a bloody cliff hanger ending that will never be resolved.
