I need to VRT my car asap, The VRT office are Looking for €5500 in VRT, the statical code is: 40485323 , 02 with 110,000 miles...

I can buy the same car in Ireland for circa €8000 - €10000, There OMSP is €16,000.
I would like them to adjust the OSMP before I pay rather than having to try and claim it back afterwards, is this possible, someone in another thread said it is..

    thanks

As far as I am aware, you are only able to appeal once you have paid. I'm prepared to be corrected however.

No you can't. Pay first, then appeal

You can't appeal before you pay, but you can make an argument as to why the figure is too high. Sometimes they lower it, sometimes they don't. If they refuse then you'd have to pay and appeal. Give them a call, see how you get on, be sure to have details of the similar cars to hand.

does it not seem unfair and a waste of peoples time, if they had the correct price to start with there would be no reason for an appeal...

is everyone above 100% correct, how do you appeal and how long does it take...

    thanks

    It is all here

    http://www.revenue.ie/en/tax/vrt/leaflets/vrt6.html

My advice to you is pay up sharpish. You really don't want to come across a Garda who can take the car off you straight away. Then you pay the fine, the VRT (and good luck appealing it if you've withheld), and the €100 or so a day impounding fee.

I would take this into consideration especially if:
    a) you have been pulled over by the guards before/have points
    b) drive a lot - I do a few miles a week and have come across customs before
    c) the car is slightly boy-racerish

One piece of advice though, not just to you but to many out there who seem to go through this problem, don't buy a car without considering the full VRT issue and assuming an appeal will "bring it into" your budget. I've known a few people to go way over budget on these things by being fascinated with the bargain they are getting from the UK. Yes, they are bargains, but the price you see is not the final price tag.

    For the OP

What you do here is go to the VRO office.

Go to register the car and then say that you what to recline from registering the car as the OMSP as stated by the Revenue are incorrect and you would like them to investigate the correct OMSP.

Provide three examples of similiar cars with prices from registered SIMI dealers.

She will take this together with your details and send to their main VRO office.

She should give you a note, to cover you for 10 days until they have it sorted out.

I went to the VRO in Dundalk last July 08, I told them that the CO2 emissions on their site was incorrect and she was able to process my application with the lower CO2 rate as per the V5.

If you produce the Invoice as well from the place you bought it from, this should also assist your application.

Quick question, lets say you go to appeal it and the appealed OMSP seems to be greater than the original OSMP revenue provided will they charge you the bigger price or just leave it as it was?
I suppose this could pop up on a rare car maybe?

This'll pop up quite regularly on certain cars - VRT calculator doesn't take into account optional extras, which can affect the OMSP by quite a bit!

"Nope, this car doesn't come with wheels, windows or doors as standard, just a steering wheel and a seat - as you can plainly see. OMSP? Why I don't see how it could be worth more than €100, and based on the fact that there are no emissions from it, I'll cut you a cheque for a tenner and we'll say no more about it."

Little does he know, you have the rest of the M5 in your garage at home...

    Mwa ha ha ha :D

I am trying to VRT a 07 Mercedes C200 CDI Avantgarde old model W203 (00-07) and the OMSP is a pure joke. They are coming up with a OSMP of €40,268.
If you look up www.vrt.ie you will see the definition of the OMSP at the bottom of the page and it states that the OMSP is 90% of the RRP (Recommend Retail Price) which means that the SIMI reckon that my car has a RRP of €44,295.
One registered SIMI garage is trying to sell a new model (W204) 07 C200 CDI Elegance for €28,950 on car zone. http://www.carzone.ie/search/Mercedes-Benz/C-Class/220-CDI/200801191343869/advert.
Another SIMI dealer Michael Moore is advertising the same Elegance model on the independent for €28,950.
I Know I can appeal the amount once I have paid it but I wouldn't fancy my chances for getting to much back.
