This is a quote from Sony regarding the cancellation of The Getaway:

"It has been agreed that production of The Getaway will cease immediately due to the redistribution of resources and budget. This decision was made following an internal review of all games and it was deemed that with the incredibly strong list of exclusive first party titles coming up both this year and in the near future, resource should be reallocated to enhance those projects closer to completion. Worldwide Studios has a reputation for innovative and entertaining games, with titles such as LittleBigPlanet, SingStar,Buzz, EyeToy and Eye of Judgement, and will continue to push the boundaries on all PlayStation platforms."

So basically, they cancelled it to focus on PS3-exclusive games.

In regards to Hitman 5 (unconfirmed title), it's all very hush-hush. The only thing I know is that it will be released on PS3 and PSP.

That quote is from a good year or so ago. Basically the Getaway was a bloated project that would never make the money back because the American audiences wouldn't "get" it (they didn't with the previous titles) so what they did was take the research, engine and assets and distribute them out to the first-party developers network.

Maybe at some point in the future the project can be revived, but only if they can do it on-the-cheap...

Big fan of Hitman here too!

They've come out every two years since the first (last one released in 2006) so hopefully we'll hear something soon. The lack of details so far may mean that they're working on a new engine too hopefully! Would be nice to see 47 and his fiber wire in full next-gen glory!:pac:

The controls in the Getaway always felt odd to me.

I liked Hitman but always found it frustratingly difficult. I still hope they don't dumb it down for this gen. I usually get p*ssed and kill everyone though which isn't really the point of the game.

There are a couple of things with the controls that could be tightened up with Hitman I think too.

I actually enjoyed MK vs DC for what it was, nothing special, but it's fun. Having Batman beat seven shades of sh*t out of Superman was incredibly satisfying for me!

    :D

SFIV is looking to be one of the biggest games of 09. Its already selling like crazy online with pre-orders.

It seems capcoms pulled off miracles with this game:

-Successfully brought 2d gameplay into 3d graphics,

-Made a game that will appeal to both hardcore competitive fighting game fans and casual gamers at the same time,

-brought back fighting games as a genre, closer to a level to what it was during the mid 90's then it has been in years

So yeah its worth a look alright :p

Agree with the comment about MK Vs DC, picked it up on the cheap at Tesco, very good fighting mechanics,

Regarding Hitman, IO the developers released Kain & Lynch a while back, which is considered a sequel of sorts to Hitman, By no menas a classic, i thought it was quite enjoyable, and frikking difficult

Everything gets banned in Australia though.

From the really poor previews Shellshock 2 looks like it will be a right stinker.

    or it could be amazing

    Gotta have faith retro
They are making 2 games, lets hope 1 is good

I say hope as this is, for me, the last chance saloon for the franchise

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 52,396 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

I'm actually thinking it will be really good since square sem to be getting a lot better lately. Still I was really looking forward to FFXII considering the team behind it and look how that turnd out.

You really are one for the overstatements?

FF12? What percentage would you give it?

I would have said a million miles from 'gash"!

Thats what I gave it then but in hindsight I'd give it a 7. Just didn't enjoy it at all really, felt like a chore rather than a game.

Final Fantasy? Really? How anyone could ever play those games past number 7 is beyond me.

Because FFIX and FFX were excellent games?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,532 ✭✭✭WolfForager

They are so reptitive, i'll give in to that the storyline is good, but the gameplay is absolute BS. Attack, wait, attack, wait, use spell, wait... How is that fun?

Maybe in FFVII it's like that but in FFX there's a real strategy in what characters and attacks you use and FFIX you're characters all have unique abilities that have to be used correctly to do well.

Now with FFXII you have a point. You just stroll up to the enemy and let the computer do everything for you.

The last one i played was the one with Tidus, not sure what it was, i enjoyed it up to a point where i couldn't upgrade anymore and couldn't defeat the next boss so i got stuck. That game really turned me against FF.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 52,396 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

That was FFX. It was really tough but only because if you didn't level up you could only beat the bosses with a good strategy. It was still very beatable just if you didn't get your strategy right you were screwed.

It wasn't the boss that was up in the snowy part of the mountains? I got stuck there and so did a friend of mine. Gave up on it.

I enjoyed FFXII a lot (but haven't gotten around to finishing it). The video for FFXIII that you can download from the playstation store looks beautiful and I'm sure I'll enjoy playing it a lot.

No, it was on the beach where everyone is fighting Sin, the big lobster like boss i think, it was well over 4 years ago so i'm not sure.

That was only a short way into the game. He definitely required a bit of strategy to beat.

I had awful trouble on the boss on the top of the mountain as well but once you know how to beat him he is easy. The trick was to use a shield spell of everyone then halfway through the fight switch to shell since he changes to magic attacks. It was a nasty fight because he could one hit kill most of my guys but with the defensive spells they would be low on health but could easily recover before the next attack.

Only a short way in? Are you sure? To me it seemed well over 3/4 of the way there.

It's all a matter of opinion, i have always preferred the MKs to the Street fighters,

Theres a fantastic variedness in the charactirs in MK V DCU.

Im not saying SF IV is crap, i havnt played it,but looking at the vids of it, and by comparing previous MKs with Previous SFs "I" prefer the MK games,

i know they might not be considered as "Cool" as the Street Fighter games, or as technically advanced as the likes of Tekken, Soul Calibour or Virtua Fighter (which in my opion lack a bit of personality)

But for me MK a bit of athmosphere, cool charactors and some savage special moves, which make you go F*&K Me!!, and last but not least Fatalities!!!

    Rant Over.

Mk is to SF what "Jane Austen's Mafia" is to The Godfather. Sure there may be some people out there whos opinion is that Mafia! is a better film than Godfather, but they're still wrong.

& the same goes for MK v SF, Mortal Kombat is a joke of a game compared to Street Fighter. Nothing to do with coolness either, its just a far more advanced and deeper game. MK is generally laughed at in the fighting game scene.

I had a phase when I thought MK2 was better than SF2 becuase it had blood in it. I got older and wiser and realised I was a stupid teenagers and thanked the gods I got my taste back.

Unresponsive controls, terrible character interaction, jerky movements and tacky moves. From the original to now the same faults have been in the game.
It only gained a following for its shock value, with each generation having to take it one step more.
If it did not have blood, it would have died at MKII
Mortal Kombat was/is/and, for the foreseeable future, will be a vastly inferior fighter to SF

At least you saw the light, in the end. Stupid adolescence

Most definetly!it will kick any other rpg game with graphics alone

I agree with you FFXII was a bit of an anti climax but far from a gash!!it was only poor in comparsion to other FF still owned any other rpg

Also cant wait for new hitman too!!:Dgo 47!
Apprently Rugby 09 was scraped by EA which was a mega disappointment for me!:(:(

Also EA are bringing out a tennis game which could be interesting!

And FF versus 13 and the new Kingdom Of Hearts game will be unreal also!!!:D:D

I think the point has been missed here somewhat. While I was advocating the plus points of Mortal Kombat, I was not diminishing those of Street Fighter, as I said I haven’t played IV, and I wouldn’t mind a go at it. I’m not saying that Mk is perfect (far form it), but it is good and I’m happy with my purchase and that’s all that really matters I suppose.

As regards to your Mafia/Godfather comparison, I think it’s a little bit irrelevant, in that your talking dung

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,748 ✭✭✭Cunny-Funt

It is relevant, someone people might wanna sit down and watch some no brainier movie rather than watch a deep masterpiece like Godfather. Its also relevant in that while 'whats good and whats bad' is a matter of opinion, somethings will be considered better by those 'in the know' and held in high regard. Like SF and godfather, but there'll still be people who'd rather a no brainier, like Mafia! and MK.

    Understand what I mean now?
