    lads

theres a ratting noise from the rear of my mondeo, its not the stuff in the boot. tyre, jack etc. as I removed em.

Its not really a problem only notice it over potholes and stuff.

Is it suspension or some ball joints or something?

    cheers.

Take a look at the rubber seals around ur shocks and c if they are wet/damp. Ur shocks might be knackered.

The defect here OP is most likely rear subframe bushings, a common problem on your car. Not cheap to resolve unfortunately, around 500 Euro plus.

prob wouldnt pass cos the tester could see the cracks in the bushings

Worth checking that it's not something simple, like the exhaust having a loose or broken mounting, allowing it to touch the bodywork somewhere when you go over a bump. That's a very common cause of rattles.

Well 'cos it's a visual fail item, it's very much down to the tester on the day. I'd say there is half a chance of getting through the test with this defect but I know the noise you describe, it sounds like a loose jack in the boot. Obviously my advice is qualified by the fact that I haven't seen the car so get someone to have a look at it for you before you commit to the figure I threw out there.
