Setting up a studio

Ok guys and gals I am currently in the middle of setting up a new studio for personal training and I just want to run a few questions by everyone.
What would you look for in a private studio?
Space? Equipment? General look? Other trainers?
Would showers be essential to you?

This would be my first independently owned studio so if any other trainer want to chuck in a few ideas on cutting costs etc. please do

    Cheers,

    Dave

Showers are shocking expensive and I don't have any in my place. They're also a lot of hassle as you have to have non-domestic water pressure and a big tank. In my place, I would have had to get a pump to get the water into the tank (pressure too bad, would have filled too slow) a tank, a pump from the tank to the showers, and then knock through a concrete floor to the unit below to access the waste pipe. Needless to say I didn't do it I'll wait til I move to get them in. I think they're a really good thing to have though, especially if you have clients early in the morning who might be heading on to work.

Equipment wise if you want to keep the costs down just go with what you need and use regularly. There's only me (for 1to1s) so all I have is a power rack, O bar and weights, dumbells, kettlebells, roman chair for hypers, pull up bars, rings, bands, swiss balls (1 big, 1 small), med balls some mats and various other bits and bobs. I got a trap bar (today actually) but that's a luxury really. I literally can't think of another thing I need. Maybe some more plates and a few more dumbells. I added those slowly as the main bulk of the initial finance was eaten up by more practical concerns.

I was only talking about this to someone the other day. If you want to open up a pub, you'll practically get a reach around from the bank manager, but try to open somewhere that offers health and fitness and all you get is the shaft. There's literally a speedbump at every turn.

Cheers roper. Your right that showers are really expensive, trying to sort that but would be a big investment. I am going to keep to basics of equipent, keep it under a €1000 initially. Luckily have one or two mats, swiss ball, heavy duty bench and olympic bar. Power rack is the first thing on my list

I have a treadmill, a few steps, balance discs among with some of the things mentioned in the other post. I do think it's different for every personal trainer depending on what kind of clients you have.
I work from home, have the garage converted to a gym and a wet room in the house which is only used by one client to change, not to shower. ( Never checked regulations on it:confused:) I do think you need a place where they can change. It all depends on your space really.
    Good luck with setting up.

There are 10 spinning bikes at the end, olympic rings are up when punch bags are down, a massage room and lots of foam rollers and bands laying about.

The gym functions as a gym as well as a place for personal training

start small and work up - power blocks, swiss ball, bench, bands and a few other odds and ends are what i started with. After that its looking at rent, showers, selling supplements etc

    Best of luck
