Stoke: Sorensen, Wilkinson, Shawcross, Abdoulaye Faye, Pugh, Delap, Whelan, Amdy Faye, Etherington, Beattie, Fuller. Subs: Simonsen, Olofinjana, Cresswell, Lawrence, Griffin, Kitson, Sonko.

Man City: Hart, Richards, Kompany, Onuoha, Bridge, Wright-Phillips, De Jong, Zabaleta, Ireland, Bellamy, Robinho. Subs: Schmeichel, Fernandes, Garrido, Elano, Caicedo, Jo, Vassell.

Delighted we've got the same team out as Wednesday.

Couple of the lads are gone up there for the game. I really do think that Stoke have enough for this one, particularly if the warm weather dwellers are not up for it.

Tis quite entertaining watching Stoke - when it isn't your team against them that is..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,919 ✭✭✭✭Xavi6

Entertaining? They're a bloody awful team. Set piece merchants with nothing else to offer.

All the pressure has been on city so far, with the odd counter attack.

Shit that was some hit on Faye. Very nasty.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46,837 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

should have been some cards for City players there too.

    Bye bye long throws!

What the hell was he at?

Tis crap football but makes for entertaining tv...

As for the sending off, that was a joke.. SWP should be the one that was sent off with Delap getting a yellow card at most.

Nah - delap deserved the red - at least a yellow for the 'tackle' and a yellow for deliberately kicking the ball at SWP when the whistle had gone. SWP should have got a card for his kick at him and Richards could have got one for shoving delap.

You must be joking. First a chop from behind then violent conduct by lashin the ball at him. Course he had to go.

    Yellow for SWP fair enough

Andy Gray is such a tosser. "So he's not allowed kick the ball, is that what your saying?" Ian Darke says nothing. Darkey deserves a medal for sitting beside that idiot.

thought the same - stupid comment and argument from Gray.

Don't kick out at other players.......

He overreacted and paid the price, but SWP should've gotten a yellow at least.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,441 ✭✭✭✭jesus_thats_gre

The first tackle was worthy of the yellow but all he done was kick the ball in the second part of it.. SWP's first tackle seemed to be showing full studs and then he actually kicked Delap after Delap hit the ball off of him..

I can see why Delap was sent off but I think it is harsh.. I do not see what SWP was not sent off however.

He deliberately kicked the ball at SWP after taking him down - its not like he was trying to clear the ball.

    I'm glad I wasn't the only one who face-palmed at Gray's comment.

They've still got long throws in them, just not freakishly long.

Haha.. While Gray's argument was overly simplistic, at the end of the day all that happened was that he kicked the ball and it hit SWP.. I think the referee handled it very poorly and shouldn't have sent Delap off.

In the immediate aftermath, SWP actually kicked out at Delap.. The rules of the game are as clear as day in cases like those and should, without doubt, have also been sent off..

Lovely chip from Whelan, lovely cross from Etherington and a lovely header from Beattie.

Terrible defending from Bridge, really really bad.

Ah ffs are you seriously suggesting that he tried to hoof it into touch and 'accidently' hit SWP?

    Bollix there's a goal

I am not saying that. What I am saying is that at the end of the day, all that happened was that he kicked the ball and the ball hit SWP. There is every chance that he did intentionally do it but it is impossible to know. Gray's argument was overly simplistic but he still has the basis of a point. There is ambiguity there.

You still haven't acknowledged that SWP clearly kicked out at Delap and should have been sent off..

It was violent conduct ffs, you're flogging a dead horse

Good stuff Stoke, now let's see 9 men behind the ball!

It's pretty obvious it was intentional, just like the kick to the back of the heel was but if you don't so then fair enough.

I did. I said he deserved a yellow at least, not for the initial tackle as all he got was the ball.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,441 ✭✭✭✭jesus_thats_gre

I just watched the replay there and the ball is actually alot closer to SWP than I originally thought - I thought it was a good foot or two away whereas it is virtually touching him. The sending off was fair.

Saying that, SWP defo should have been sent off.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,452 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Definite red card for Delap, I was shocked that he did that.
Stoke got away with murder in that half imo, it looked to me that Robinho was be fouled with and without the ball a lot, he overdid it a couple of times but he was certainly fouled four times that he got nothing for.
City have looked very dodgy at centre back.
A lot of overhit balls from City there in the first half, they will have it hard to break them down now with everyone guaranteed to be behind the ball for the remainder.
Still they are currently being robbed.
What do they do now though is the queston, I think Stoke look weak when City play down the left. I'd like to see SWP in the hole. Or maybe another striker on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,594 ✭✭✭jaykay74

I've seen arguments that Ronaldo should have been sent off for similar to SWP. Its seems like petulant kicks are a yellow card offense these days

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,919 ✭✭✭✭Xavi6

Ridiculous yellow card for Elano there. Never touched him

Stoke look to be cruising here.
