He's put on weight alright, he was as thin as a rake two years ago, I think he had some illness or other.

Agree with the above about Deirdre O'Kane. A voice that would go through your head, worse that her sister.

Interview with Paisley, Pat being extraordinarily careful to the point of nearly being nervous. Don't think we are gonna get to the bones of anything on this, all fluff. Ask him about the daughter's case against the party for example, ???

I think it's good to see him on the show in the sense that for a long time he was seen as some sort of Boogey Man but I do think his views are stuck in the Stone Age and that time has passed his views by. Thank God.

I'm impressed how much our nation has matured. Ian Paisley on the Late Late Show!!! The man & his wife have been given a "cead mile failte" by the audience.

Ian Paisley is part of the old Ireland. I'm glad we are past his likes.
I think the new Ireland is becoming a complete Ireland (ie 32 counties) - if only on a retail basis. The current economic "troubles" are forging new links between Rep of Ireland and NI. So maybe some good will come from the recession/depression.

If we keep shopping up North, eventually prices in Rep will come down to match NI (or close enough).

If Rep prices were 10% more than NI, I think we would be satisfied. Everyone is aware of diff in VAT. My 10% has a built in Irish GREED margin.

True, but they still don't want people to shop in the North.Though think you are right, retailers will have to reduce prices

Show is after getting fair boring. Food thing was alright, and the guy was funny. But it's the sort of thing that should be on during the day. Hardly prime time viewing.

Esther is boring me to tears. Her comments about Paisley are interesting. Pat didnt even have the balls to mention paisley's hatred of Catholics. Jaysus she is after talking about his testosterone now..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,663 ✭✭✭✭Mental Mickey

P(r)at Kenny is not a good light entertainment host. Give him a serious subject to talk about, and he's away!

He should be hosting Prime Time or Q&A.

You are right MM, he should never have left the current affairs/political dept in RTE. If he had not , he could have grown into a Farrell/Bowman/maybe even a bit of a Paxman.

However, in his LLS and radio career in the last 10 years, can anyone cite an interview where Pat was been even slightly "ruthless" towards his interviewee.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,591 ✭✭✭✭Aidric

Esther Rantzen...Jaysus, put your mickey back in your pants, she's horrid. The Paisley interview was schmalzy crap aimed at a further softening of his image no doubt. The guy at the end was about the only interesting segment from tonights show.

And people from NI can't afford to shop in the South, especially when they get paid less.

Paisley does not hate Catholics, but he does have definite views on Roman Catholicism. Big difference. Do not forget many Catholics gave voted for him over the years eg those on Tory island. The interview was interesting..I never knew Paisley brought his family to the Vatican before.

Definite views. Hah, he calls the pope the antichrist, is that what you mean?

He did not call him that on the tv last night, but Pat Kenny did remind Paisley he once referred to the pope as that. I remember another time in the eighties I think it was Paisley refered to the Pope as old redsocks !

onathanAnon claimed "Pat didnt even have the balls to mention paisley's hatred of Catholics.", but Kenny did probe Paisleys attitude to Cathilics on more than one occassion last night. Paisley also said that the Pope / Roman Catholics did not believe that he ( Paisley ) or other non R.C.'s would get in to heaven, but he ( Paisley) did not mind that, he was going anyway ! No hatred coming from Paisley there.

Q: What do Deirdre O'Kane and Pat Kenny have in common?
A: Only in Ireland could they be a success.

I did have to laugh when she said she'll wait for Hollywood to come calling rather than go over to it or something like that.

As if Hollywood will ever be interested in Deirdre O'Kane.

That's harsh. Hollywood needs barstaff too.

(I odnt like her, but that's because of those costcutter ads. And the fact that she isn't funny.)

(I odnt like her, but that's because of those costcutter ads. And the fact that she isn't funny.)

    I dont like her because:
    • she's talentless
    • too full of herself
    • is not funny
    • unattractive
    • can't act
    • married to a terrible director (Boy Eats Girl FFS )

I agree with 3 but not with 4, she's not a bad looking woman, I'd do her.

People in Free State don't get Paisley. He was a hard man when he needed to be and a great leader for his people. Probably a bigot and all but he doesn't have the monopoly on that, north or south. He also intervened regularly on behalf of his RC constituents so maybe he just hates the Pope and not the people? And I'm with him on the pope thing myself. Maybe not the interventionist thing. But he's probably a youknowhatIwantosay. But so's G. Adams.

Pat Kenny is a very skilled and erudite interviewer when he wants.

Without Dublin you would still be living in mud huts. Dublin is the economic engine of Ireland. Where do you think the money comes from to subsidise people living in the Gaeltacht and on our Islands. If we did absorb the North then we would be crippled financially. It just isn't worth it.
