Recommendations for a semi acoustic €350-400 range

    Hi folks,

I’m looking to get myself a semi acoustic, primarily for recording work in a home studio. I have had an Art & Lutherie for years (solid cedar top). It’s fine for playing acoustically, but doesn’t translate so well when recorded (via pick up or mic).

A mate has a Yamaha CPX700 like this & it sounds great when recorded. Not sure I’d necessarily go for the same strummer if I wanted it to gig, but for recording, it seems to be a good choice. I have a budget of c. €350-400 (I’ll probably buy online from the UK) so before I take the plunge, I was looking for any advice on what alternatives might be worth a look in a similar price range.

Check out Tanglewoods. Used to have one I bought for about 400 lids but sold it on recently for a Garrisson.

Was a great guitar for the money imo

Is the guitar you have not in the same budget? I think you're wasting your money to be honest. 350-400 is not an upgrade at all, and won't get you anything that is especially record-worthy.

Piezo pickups exist purely because the downsides of micing on stage outweigh the fact that they make the guitar sounds like a plank of wood with no soundbox. Even the most expensive guitar will sound relatively weak with a piezo. They're very rarely used in the studio, and even then, usually for effect.

What mics are you using to record the acoustic at the moment? With a guitar with a solid cedar top and 400 euros, I'd be looking at my microphones and the treatment of the recording room to be honest.
