    Hi Guys,
Just wondering who Sat4Free have contracted to do their installations and how are they rolling this out through the country.
Have any of the installers here been contacted by them, if so what were they offering for each install.

    Cheers

Not here either. I think Electroplus is a trade distributor for this hardware.

Aye Electroplus are selling the boxes alright, they must not be selling too well as they are offering them now for €50. Is it them that are doing the installs for them?

AFAIK, Electroplus do installations of Sky, so I'd presume they install the S4F hardware too.

I am not sure if its trade price. but that's what we are paying Electroplus for them

Think this is trade price, listed as €66 on invoice then with -€16 discount below.

Jaysus Sat4free mustn't be selling many installs if nobody knows who is doing there installations...

I suppose it would help them if they advertised the service.... But no, they don't seem to want to!

Perhaps Freesat are not happy about them adverstising?

That may be the case Tony... It would appear to be a very strange situation.

A simpler explanation is that they're incompetent!

The Sat4Free package including installation for €299 as sold in Tesco etc is overpriced imo. €250 would be nearer the mark or ideally €200. Particularly when, as mentioned above, the trade price for the box is only €50 and Powercity can sell them at a profit for €80.

How can they justify an extra €220 for a shi**y dish, LNBF and installation? And why do they limit sales of the box alone to Powercity and a couple of independents?

The so called "trade price" does not inlude vat so the actual margin is only around 15 euro on the box so I guess the thinking is they make the money on the dish and install. Sales are not limited , any independent can buy them from Electroplus. I chose to go with imported UK Freesat boxes which are a little more flexible with regard to region setting perhaps othet independents feel the same way.

Yes, I use Freesat boxes too (Grundig), when I need to use them.

I still prefer to use Technomate boxes, as they're quicker to install with a USB key (containing preset tuning setup), and they have a modulator for distribution purposes.

I don't think there is a Freesat SD box with modulator?

You are right they do not have modulators. Technomate is a great box but it does not have the 7 day epg or automatic channel and firmware update.update

I meant limited more in terms of not being available in Tesco, for example, which has a wider reach than Powercity.

If it's not too nosey, are you (or Byte) having any difficulties getting the official Freesat UK boxes?

Well for myself the difficulty is in getting them at a competitive price as supplies are still not what they would be for other products so suppliers have the upper hand on pricing.

I was just wondering how active the whole Freesat consortium were in terms of preventing export of official boxes aboard e.g. as when the Panasonic PZ81s were withdrawn from Argos.

Interesting to read Byte's comment on the Technomate - I would have thought that in the longer term, a Freesat/Sat4Free box would entail less hassle for an independent. No customer ringing up wondering why Channel 4 isn't working after SES/Sky/whoever have yet again changed the PIDs on 28E for the umpteenth time.

Yeah, it seems to be the same situation at work here.

Apogee, you're right regarding long term for the Technomate box. Currently if anyone rings me to say X channels are off, I just call in, stick in USB stick and I'm done in a few minutes.

In situations where I install for an older person, or somebody with just one TV set in the home, I'd always opt for Freesat in this instance.

Maybe sometime, somebody will introduce a Freesat/Sat4Free box with modulator, and at that stage, it may be considered by my superiors to use these boxes exclusively. Until then, I pick and choose, based on individual requirements.

Whatever you do, don't let anyone on your roof who doesn't use roof ladders. First sign of a competent workman: if he's working on rooves, he should have the correct ladders.
