An other question for those that switched to Digital+. Did they take away the existing Digital box? I have TV points in other rooms. If I keep this box could I then have Digital in another room??

You can't keep your old box unless you're willing to pay the extra subscription. They're not as good as Sky+ in a lot of ways, and there's talks of there being software updates for it which will add new features like series link but don't keep your hopes up.

It's still miles better than any standalone DVR, as you can record digital channels directly with no loss in quality and record a digital channel while watching another, pause live TV, etc.

I do pay for an extra point though. As the box is an old NTL unit it will probably end up in a skip.

They want to get rid of the old boxes anyway (as they don't support newer the encryption systems they want to upgrade to), so yes they probably will take it away regardless.

Got the box installed yesterday and 24 hours on it has not been activated by them

Also have called them back out as the normal cable picture is now terrible and some channels have disappeared completely.

Nothings ever straight forward with UPC/Chorus/NTL.

Insist you get compensated for the time you've had no TV. It's their fault, not yours. :)

Surprisingly they offered it already without me asking. I must say customer service is so much better than a few years ago. thumbupyellow.gif

Wow, that's something. I had similar problems with my one when I got it installed. It wasn't so much the downtime as the constant lying from UPC reps that got me. One even told me I'd need the box replaced, then it was working a day later.

They replaced the unit this morning. They even phoned me to check i was happy with everything :D

I only have the box less than a week and I got a letter from Chorus saying they are going to replace the card in the Digital box which will prepare the box for exciting future digital TV enhancements. Hope so :)

    Just ordered this today.

Just wondering what size is the box? Also Is it possible to export recorded programmes if the box gets full?

    Thanks

I have this box and it holds quite a lot on the hard drive. It is possible to record to a DVD recorder once you have your UPC box connected to the DVD recorder which, in turn, is connected to the TV.

I got the +box on Friday morning as a self install. The courier took away the old box. I then got an error message from the box saying that I had the wrong card for the box. I rang the number in the accompanying letter for tech support for self install. The guy that answered shot off a mobile number and hung up. So I rang the number again, this time with a pen and paper handy.

When I rang the mobile number I got through to a mailbox which had a message saying to ring the tech support number...

So I rang Customer Service and 15 minutes later connected with a person. That was at 10:15am. The rep took the details and sent a request to the 'Provisioning Team' to sort it out. It's now lunchtime on Monday and its still not sorted.

I feel like telling them to stuff it. Can I revert to analogue only TV and keep broadband?

You should have been given a new card in the envelope supplied with the new box - did you use this? The card from your old box will not work.

The old card went back with the old box. I rang them again this afternoon. I gave them the card number and box id (again). They're sending someone around Wednesday morning to check it out. They'll also check out the alleged 30MBit broadband I upgraded to, which is only giving 10/16 at the moment.

hi there, ive just ordered my digital+ HD box as it is finally available in our area - does anyone know if there is an Optical Output on the box? Im hoping to connect my 5.1 properly as currently we can only use dolby pro logic with the standard box. The HD channels should be broadcast in 5.1 im thinking...anyone know if there is the optical output on the back of the new boxes? Thanks. :)

IIRC it has digital optical out, if not co-ax. The HD channels are "Dolby Digital" of some form (maybe 1.0? :D).

    brilliant - thanks. :)

    Hi

I've upgraded to HD+ and the box is due to be delivered shortly. The courier rang and asked have I an old box for collection? I said no. Nowhere in any of the confirmation mails does it state I have to return the old box and I was never asked for it back by them. I had asked about the cost of multi-room viewing and self-installing the box in another room, she said that was fine, it would be an extra €5 a month if I wanted it. I didn't say one way or another, but this conversation was after my order of the HD+ box.

    So, 3 questions:

    1. Do I have to return the old box?
    2. Can my girlfriend sign for it if she is not the name on the account? I know it says the account name must sign, but how strict are the courier company/UPC, surely they just want me to get the box?
    3. If I keep the old box, and I don't have a tv point in the bedroom, is it just a case of splitting the signal coming from the tv point in the living room and running a cable to the bedroom? And paying the extra €5 of course.

    Thanks.

All the HD channels are in 5.1 and the HD box has an optical out.

Is there any map of availability for the Digital+ box or is it available to any existing digital customers? Just spent all day today trying to upgrade my package to the + box and HD. Figured out I couldn't get HD which was fine but had major hassle trying to sort out the + box situation. The rep sounded pretty young and was getting confused..

Digital+ I think is available in all digital areas except ex-Chorus MMDS (not cabled) areas. If you mention where you are I'm sure someone here could tell you.
