More trouble for the motor industry

Just reading this article this morning:

Looks to be pretty grim for Honda, quarterly profits down 63% on this time last year, UK factory being closed for 4 months.

These are interesting times.

The problem with Honda is there range. The Civic is an ugly car, wouldn't you have a focus or a golf over it?

The new Accord was too too late in its arrival, and as such is now too expensive compared to its rivals. This car should be their biggest seller, so they need to look at this ASAP.

The CRV? I havent seen a new one of those on the road in a year or so. Again, they are too expensive for what they are.

The Jazz only appeals to a certain section of the market - unlike the Fiesta, Polo, and even C3.

What else is there to sell? Lawnmowers?

Its sad to see this happening all the same. Expect it to get worse too.

Honda arent the only ones suffering, others probably havent released figures yet. Tomorrow is the 31st so monday we will have the month figures for registrations and its not going to be pretty. And unfortunately if things dont pick up after the 10/20 day figures in Feb you may see businesses in the motor trade here starting to make more serious decisions as to what they are going to do going forward. A lot of dealers and distributors etc wont be able to sustain those figures for the year.

I don't know much about their cars but they make some of the best bikes in the world.

Bikes estimated to account to half theiir 08/09 profits.

Honda messed up with the Accord big time.It was released in the UK in February 2008 and November over here.We had thirty odd customers who would have bought off us but went to the UK because they wouldnt release them due to stocks of the old model over here.

Things are getting worse in the trade tbh.February could be the month for big closures.
