National Football League 2009

Thought it might be useful to have a general thread for the NFL 2009, a place to put any and all discussion relating to matches in the League over the next few months...

Anyway, Cork vs Meath on Sunday. Cork team...

    Cork - 2009 NFL V Meath: A Quirke; M Shields, N O Donovan, A Lynch; N O’ Leary, G Canty, J Miskella; A O Connor, P O Neill; C McCarthy, F Goold, P Kelly; D Goulding, M Cussen, D O Connor.

Bench: Kevin Murphy, Ger Spillane, Paul Kerrigan, Paul Flynn, Andrew O'Sullivan, Ray Carey, John Hayes, Kevin O'Sullivan.

Might have it tough against Meath. Don't know much about O' Donovan, I would have Shields pencilled in for full back, but I guess anyone's better then that idiot Kanvanagh (no Duggan either mercifully). Strong center back line. Alan O'Connor given yet more opportuinities in midfield, seems to be a bizarre favourite of the selectors. Center forward line looks dodgy - Goold's a lightwieght, McCarthy an often clueless workhorse and don't know much about Kelly. If the full forward line gets the right ball though, they'll destroy Meath. Hopefully Kerrigan and the two O'Sullivan's get some decent game time, talented players.

Considering the amount of players to come back, its a pretty decent team. Hopefully, come Munster Championship time, the likes of Duggan, A O'Connor, Kavanagh and Spillane won't be anywhere near the first 15.

I was half fancying us to destroy Meath but with that center forward line I'm not sure. Might be a tight game. 2 point win for Cork I think.

Any chance this is on TV?

Cork and Monaghan will be promoted from division 2 IMO. Cork should beat Meath well considering they have home advantage.

As for the Dubs, I am worried a bit. I think Tyrone will blow them off the park and Dublin could get relegated from Division 1. I hope they prove me wrong.

God damn its boring watching Donegal play basketball football. They are well on their way to a hammering.

I watched the highlights of the Dublin vs Tyrone game last night and after the first half I thought Tyrone will win the All Ireland. I sat mesmerised watching point after magnificent point from Stevie O'Neill! Dublin fought back brilliantly, but Tyrone had left that little bit in the tank.
Then after watching the First half of the Kerry vs Donegal... i've revised my prediction. 2-8 to 0-3 in favour of Kerry. I know Donegal aren't great, but the Kerry Movement, Passing and Point taking is unreal! Loving the new rules, super fast game. Galvin back to his best.

Kerry are very sharp, but Donegal are awful, even for this time of the year. Full back line's a mess, midfield completely dominated, no enthusiaism etc.

The Gooch is back to his best.

    Barry Monaghan was poor IMO

Cork Meath was awful as a spectacle but satisfactory for a Cork fan. Very solid defensively, midfield completely dominant, Goulding and O'Connor sharp up front. The only downside was Cussen's performance at full forward, about two stone overweight and could barely move.

Meath were poor, absolutely clueless going forward, and there was a pretty decent gulf in quality.

Some surprising results today - mainly louth Kildare armagh and kerry to win by such big margins. Great performances all round.
