It looks nice, and i'm liking the speed but how long do you think the battery would last?

Presumably it will depend on you not doing 208mph but...
According to Shelby, it will be possible to fully charge the batteries in just 10 minutes from the mains, thanks to an on-board system it is calling 'Charge on the Run'.

Once the Ultimate Aero EV's batteries are charged it will have a range of between 150 and 200 miles.

Its bad enough having people walking out in front of the Prius doing 10MPH, you would want a damn good horn on this one.

Giant speakers on the outside of the car, with "V8" playing at full volume.

presumably it'll do that 208mph for 2 seconds then spend 16hours charging before you can show your friends your glorified childhood remote control car?

    (not attacking OP), seriously

    :pac:

The picture dosn't show the batteries, they come on an additional twin axle trailer. :D

The hydrogen fuel cell is the next step forward. James May covered this a while ago on top gear.

I thought we all learned lessons from the Hindenburg

The fuel tank is reinforced, and coated in a special lining so that it won't explode in the event of an accident. Honda have produced a car which uses hydrogen fuel cell technology- this was the car featured on top gear. The hydrogen fuel cell powers an electric motor, and James May was quite impressed with it.

They also said that the Titanic was unsinkable.

"They" also said if man was meant to fly, God would have given him wings.

"They" also said the earth is flat.

Battery power will never take off in our life time! Remember that.

    This is just impossible.

The motor is capable of 1000 bhp. Lets suppose it only needs 100 bhp to cruise along at 50 mph for its 150 mile range: that's 3 hours at 75 KW. To "fully charge" that in 10 minutes you'd have to shove in 225 KW hours of energy, for a power input of 1350 KW. At 220V, thats 6000 amps! A domestic supply is only good for 60, so you'd need full power from 100 houses' supply to charge this thing in 10 minutes.

More sensibly, if you were to plug it in for 24 hours, it'd draw 40 amps or so, which is enormous and dangerous, but doable with special electrical connections.

To get the current down to a safe level so that you could plug it in like a normal appliance, you'd have to leave it plugged in for 3 days to charge.

Petrol is rather dangerous stuff too, hasn't anyone learned their lesson?

From what I've read, the fireball that killed people on the Hindenburg was a result of the fabric of the airship itself burning, not the hydrogen. That would have burnt off in an instant, and if the rest of the airship had been fireproof that would have been the end of it.

Not to mention the heat generated trying to charge it as you describe above.

"Why that's a lovely pile of melted plastic and metal you have there, 208mph you say"

I'm far from an expert but isn't the problem with hydrogen fuel cell technology that it uses a lot of precious metals like platinum and therefore is extremely expensive?
