Zombie Hotels

Anybody hear John McKenna (editor of Bridgestone Hotel Guides) on RTE radio today? He was talking about the explosion of so called 'Zombie Hotels' in Ireland over the last ten years. Hotels that look like hospitals/office blocks built by developers in receipt of massive tax breaks. Soulless holes with badly paid, badly managed and badly motivated staff which should never have been built as there was little rhyme or reason to their location. There is now a vast oversupply of hotel rooms in Ireland and John McKenna reckons that hotels across the country are set to close at the rate of one a week during 2009! Today the Castletroy Hotel in Limerick (a very fine example of hospital architecture) closed down and it was not the first this year. Where were Bord Failte when all these hotels were being thrown up?

I can think of several prime examples in this area which could be classified as 'Zombie Hotels' anybody got their own nominations?:D
