SKY HD Remote Control

Hey - just got SKY HD last week, after having SKY+ for years.

The remote control seems to have a bit of lag, and also doesn't work unless pointed directly at the box (most remote controls work when pointed in the region of their box: it doesn't have to be 'directly').

Anyone else have this issue, or is it a faulty remote and/or box?

The lag is very frustrating, as you press "record" and nothing happens, so you press it again....then it records & stops!

Basically, the SKY HD remote control seems way slower than the SKY+ and Standard SKY Digital remotes.

Have this issue but only on playing back if you select a certain time to play from (or anytime TV) I put it down to it searching the HDD . Never noticed it on record though.

Yes, this has been happening this past few months and with ours it also effects different buttons such as the number 6 or even the Sky Button. It seems that even pointing directly at the box makes little difference and it lags like mad. Pressing another key and the reverting to the actual key you want seems to work. This only seems to be a problem on HD boxes as our + box is totally unaffected.

    Same for me too.

Mine is in the drawer gathering dust as i found it very irratating and the older version Sky+ remote works far better.

It's often caused by light radiating from the TV set. Most noticeable while the TV is warming up from cold. Try putting a single layer of black PVC dustbin liner over the front panel of the Digibox. That has been known to cure it. If it does, you can put a tiny piece over the sensor behind the front panel.

The problem can also be caused by an "energy saver" lamp.

Is this a Thomson box? Mine was exhibiting the same symptoms last week, then packed in entirely. Mind you was nearly three years old. I eventually had to resort to plugging in a remote eye (TV link) into the RF2 outlet and putting the receiver on top of the box. Works fine now. The power supply went up in smoke last month. The Thomson boxes are poor quality internally and the firmware leaves a lot to be desired. I gave up on SKY eventually and went for the Freesat HD PVR from Humax. The kids are now using the HD box on a basic subscription - myself and the missus manage just fine on the free channels.
