Newbie to the boards and only cycling 2 years. So can any tell me about this Event. Would not be afraid of the distance as I always been a stayeras a former runner and long distance hillwalker. How fast do they go. Did Wicklow 200, Tours of Corrib,Burren,Yeats Country,Westernlakes, Roscommon and the Mayo costal 300km 2 day last year and survived. 600 mls in 5 days with last day in Wicklow may be a bit crazy:eek:.
All advice welcome as would have to sign up and start increasing the work load above the base miles

    Hey there,

A group of us from Naas CC did this last year it was a great event, well organised, rolling road closures, even had sprint finishes (not, I hasten to add, that I was involved in any!) I think it's surprisingly dooable, 1st and third day last year were very difficult, Mourne Mountains and Silvermines, I think this year you'll be avoiding the Mournes but probably still doing the Silvermines (on the 4th day!)

I had cycled a max of 120km in one sitting before undertaking it last year with minimal training, I think if you start now you shouldn't have any problems.

Check out the report on www.naascc.terapad.com

I did it in 2007. Very well organised and recommend it.
There were 3 groups formed at the start of each stage
    Fast 30K-35K+ PH
    Medium 27-30 k average
    touring less than 25kPH

I did 2 days with the fast group and 2 with the Medium. Both groups worked very well with everyone doing turns on the front.
The fast group did turn into a bit of a race.

As of today, I;m doing it too, I've been planning this for a 6 months but had a baby in Dec. Stopped training on Saturday after 30kms had to come back to help the wife. However, as of about 2 hours ago, I'll all back on again.

The key isnt just miles its the back to back nature of the rides. My plan at the moment is to get used to back to back 4-6 hour rides. Hopefully this will put me in good steed.

Thanks for the replys lads.Joined a spinning class with the local club(15miles away) and met 2 guys who have done it.1 a racing head finished in the top 15 time wise in 07 and the other who is a genuine club leisure rider averaged 15mph in 08 both said it was a great event and achievable. So I joining the club spins as often as I can from now on.The leisure guy is signed up again so Ill give it a few weeks and decide then
