    Hi all,

I'm running 32bit vista home premium OEM and am looking to upgrade to 64bit and having read around a bit, people are saying that if I get a 64bit edition I can use my serial number and it will be legit. is this true or will I have to buy a copy to upgrade?

    Thanks
    req:D

There's a page on Microsoft's site where you can apply for the 64-bit media for the price of postage. I did it and my 32-bit key worked. Not 100% sure if it works with OEM licences though.

Also, there's no actual upgrade path when it comes to installing it - you will need to do a clean installation.

This might just possibly have something to do with the fact that you can't move an OEM license to a different motherboard which upgrading from 32 to 64 bit would imply.

thats the thing, it wouldnt though. my laptop is already 64-bit. i should be allowed to switch it to 64-bit just like any other retail user of vista. Theres no change in the motherboard going on here at all.
