    I keep hearing this phrase on the news. But Ive never actually heard anyone explain who is in this group, who the govt consults with for a lot of its decisions.

    So who are they, & what is their role?

    The social partners are the trade unions and the employers (or their representative organisations) engaged in social dialogue. ex: http://www.ndp.ie/viewdoc.asp?fn=/documents/links/social_part.htm

    According to that link we have :

    * IBEC
    * European Movement
    * National Women`s Council Of Ireland
    * Irish Congress of Trade Unions
    * Chambers Ireland
    * Dublin Business Innovation Centre
    * West/North Business Innovation Centre

    So how exactly does a group of people become a 'social partner' and therefore in a position to influence the financial future of Irish people.

    The Illuminati
    The New World Order
    Manchester United FC
    The Masons

    Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

    "The Social Partners": a phrase bandied about in times of recession.

    Before last year, I haven't heard it used in the media since 1992. It's basically a spin-word for trade unions.

    Yeah thats kinda part of what I wanted to know. I mean out of that list, the National Women`s Council Of Ireland jumps out at me as an odd one. I dont exactly see why they wield any influence. The European movement & Chambers Ireland could in theory be anyone too.

    They're the people that wanted to share the spoils when the going was good, but want to assure their income when things slow down & recede

    Presumably its because women are generally paid less to do the same work as men and the National Women's Council are looking out for their members, like every other group there. Its not that odd really when you think about it. Also Chambers probably refers to Chambers of Commerce.
