STARTED NEW BUILD

    Hello All,
Just started my self build. Site cleared and footings started. I'm going to post the plans here and would appreciate any advice or views people might have. The biggest headache I have at the moment is insulation. I am aiming for an A3 rating or close. Looked at kingspan and it will cost close to €34k just for the material. When you factor in costs of slabber it starts to go become insane money. I will also have to go for a fairly high spec window to compliment the insulation. With all the glass I have it's starting to look like €70k or so for windows and insulation.
I could really do with some help on this. I'm not really worried about getting an actual A3 certification as I don't plan on ever selling, but I would like a well insulated house.
Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hi Rawhead

I would suggest you send your plans to the different insulating companies and give them the specification you require. They will estimate your requirements from the plans and hence can advise you on the rating and certify their specification.
Most insulation companies will price accordingly through a builders merchant of your choice. All companies have a technical section to deal with the up & coming building regulations and best practice

    Good luck with the build

    Rawhead,

Deffinately look at different companies. Change from Kingspan to Hytherm for instance and your €34k will certainly go under €30k, there is also Ballytherm, Quinn and many others. Speak to the reps themselves as they are all looking for work.

Windows you can deffinateyl shop around as alot will have little or no work at present. Are you going wooden?

    Regards

    Keith

PS Thats a nice house. Alot of windows are not going to help you get your rating, especially as so many on the northern face of the building.
