How to narrow down Italy?

    Hi there,

I'm starting to tear my hair out and i've only been engaged a month :o

My fiance and I are thinking of getting married in Italy in June 2010, but haven't a clue where to start looking. From my research, there seems to be 3 main areas popular for weddings (discounting Rome) - Tuscany, Amalfi coast and Lake Garda and the surrounds.

I've only ever been to Rome so don't know how to narrow down regions so I can start looking seriously? I'd also like to take a holiday to the region in question and look at hotels and venues. From what I can see there are advantages and disadvantages to each region - my priorities are ease of access, affordable flights (with more than one option for guests), great food, and great wine. I'm looking for somewhere rustic, but not in the middle of nowhere so guests aren't reliant on rental cars. Somewhere with a bit of nightlife is a must - even just a pub or a hotel bar that will stay open. There just seems to be so many places to consider, I'm baffled.

Can anyone throw any suggestions my way? Thanks a million, from one frazzled fiance :P

I was at a wedding in Lake Garda in 2006 in a little town called Malcesine and it was divine.

Lovely hotels and a buzzy little town.

    I'd highly recommend it

We had to get married in Ireland because I was ill but Lake Garda is stunning! Riva is one of the most romantic places in the world - trying to get the hubby to bring me back this year so that we can finally have a honeymoon! The view from our room of the dolomites was something else!

    Oh, and congrats!

Hi, we too are planning a civil ceremony in Sorrento this September. We are from Canada and are digging deep into our pockets and having our 3 children accompany us. We have rented a villa in Sorrento and are hoping to have a simple ceremony at the town hall the week we are staying there to make it official. We were hoping to get paperwork ready in advance, any suggestions or information would be so very much appreciated, along with the costs? We have entertained the idea of trying to wait to get there to organize but we are a little anxious about that idea! Hoping to hear back thanks so much!

I was in Lake Garda last year... Riva is definitely the liveliest part of the lake... plenty of young people. Malcesine is beautiful but it's a bit of a conveyor belt of weddings :o the day we were there, we saw 3 or 4. I'm sure they know what they're doing and keep all the weddings away from eachother though. I thought I'd like a destination wedding until I've been to some of the places and seen them :o . There are some amazing places in Tuscany. Florence is the most beautiful city in the world. Siena, Lucca, San Gimignano, I just fell in love with all those places.

You'll find places to stay open late but I've always found the Italian nightlife is the only thing that lets it down :(

Hahaha! Just saw this dragged up! I'm actually happily married over a year now, had the wedding in Artimino in Tuscany (www.artimino.com) - it was amazing :)

Any questions, let me know :)
