    ok, i know this is dangerously close to totally off topic for this forum...so feel free to ignore!

    Gerard McDonnell was the irish climber killed on K2 last year...this is an inspirational article (beware: it's a little technical) on what happened to the expedition and how he was ultimately killed trying to save other climbers.

    I don't know the detail of the story but the guy appears to have been a hero and got pretty poor press coverage afterwards...the article won an award on explorersweb.com. I know its about mountaineering and not running...but i think runners can empathise with anyone who pushes themselves to the limit. well worth a read.
