VW Golf - Getting a Earth Inside the Car.

    Hey Lads,

Hoping ya can help us with this, having a nightmare.
I'm a 2006 VW Golf and I've bought an AUX for the Standard Factory Head Unit. For the adapter to work it needs a solid god earth connection, but this is proving easier said than done.

I've had the unit working already by butchering an old mobile phone charger and extending the cable to the engine block and it works a charm. Back inside the care is hopeless. I've connected to so far too:

The back of the head unit.
A strange metal thing I found inside the dash.
The rails the seats slide on.... Still nuting!

Is there a way I can connect the earth directly to the cars electronics? Over at the fuse board maybe?

    Cheers in advance guys.

Are you limited with the length of the wire?
You should be able to find a nut fixing something to the steel body easily enough.

Any brown coloured on a VW is an earth wire - there will be one at the rear of the stereo. Failing that, any unpainted metal will do.

Be careful not to pull, cut or mess with twisted pairs of wires.........

Yea I was thinking that too but the cable is too short plus I wouldn't have a clue how to get behind it anyway. Golf are better built than I thought.
Last night I extended the little ground wire over to the metal hook for the door, again only worked briefly.

Will I just bite the bullet and chance Halfords? Unless someone anyone here knows a cheap car electrician? :/

ooooorrrrr.... Does anyone know where the ground point on the car is anything, like I know the whole body should be but there has to be one point where it all meets up right?

From memory (sketchy at best) you can pull out the gearstick gaiter and see whats what. Also there is a dirty big bolt under the ash tray (which pulls out to reveal a screw) that is an earth point. Apart from that a good auto electrician could probably wire it back to the fuse board in half an hour.
