18.4" Laptop Can't find bag

    I have an Acer8930G 18.4" Laptop.

The thing is I can't seem to find a laptop bag anywhere that is designed to hold it.

I think a 17"er will be too tight..

Anyone have a laptop this size and use a laptop bag that it'll actully fit into?

I found it impossible to fit my 17"xps in most bags, even bags described as for 17" laptops. I ended up getting Dell's backpack built specially for it.

Try mailing Acer and see what they recommend.

Just out of curiousity- where did you buy it?
I'm in the market for something with a reasonably large screen- I'm swinging between the Dell Studio 17 or the Acer 8930G

I can get a refurb Studio 17 for £460+vat or a refurb Acer 8930G for £685+vat (the Studio 17 is only a 2Ghz dual core processor- the 8930 is 2.4Ghz- so its not exactly comparing like with like).

Why did you go for the 18.4" screen over and above the 17" and how are you finding it at the moment?

    Cheers,

    Shane

    Hi Shane,

I got it on Laptops Direct.
I went for the ACER because I think bang for buck they are one of the best around and I really likie the styling of them.
I went for the 18.4 bacause I mainly use it for gaming and media so the bigger the better I say:)
Also it has a blu ray and full 1080P screen ( Which is savage ).
At the moment it's my most prized possession it's a great laptop and I'd pick it over the dell if I had to make that decision.
If you going for a desktop replacment ( like I did ) and you dont plan on moving the laptop around too much by all means go for the 18.4 but if you need some mobility they can be quite big and heavy.

    Dual Core P8400 2.26ghz
    4GB Ram
    320HDD
    Nvidia GForce 9700GT
    18.4" Full HD LCD Screen
    Blu Ray Drive

I'm very tempted to go for the cheaper version here and plonk a faster processor in it myself- it has the PM45 chipset so there are T9600s etc going for around £150 that could make a big difference?

How easy is it to upgrade I wonder.....?

Not too sure myself on Laptop upgrades ( it's my first ) I've been a PC man for years and done plenty of upgrading in that time but upgrading a laptop is a different kettle of fish.
    Found this site : http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=337227

Lots of info here from fellow 8930 owners might help in your decision to buy.
You wont be dissappointed if you do deside to get one

    Hi Smccarrick,

    Congrats on your new purchase.

Did you upgrade at source or did you actually buy the graphics card and processor seperatlly and do it yourself?

I got the graphics chip and the CPU as ESs (Engineering Samples) on ebay and installed them myself. The Acer 8930 is incredibly modular, and very easy to play with its internals. I've since added an Avermedia A310 (also from ebay) to the free mini-PCIe slot (there are 2- the other one has the wireless card in it) so- I now have MPEG 4 digital TV on the full HD screen.

I wouldn't recommend messing with a laptop unless you were fully sure of what you were doing though!!!

I know its no comparison but if your looking for a new laptop, why not take a look at toshiba qosmio.i bought mine off a guy on adverts for 650.Although he said there was a prob with it,it was within warranty so i sent it back, got a new motherboard etc.The pc looks flashySound quality is excellent but kinda low and the graphics card is excellent for a laptop. The support centre isnt as good as other companys but it does its job, just a bit more awkward.

Its surprisingly light tbh- my old Dell Inspiron 6400 (15.4") was heavier......
