Beautician starting out - what products?

I'm currently training to be a beautician and I want to set up from home to get started. My problem is I want to purchase a beauty range that is good but not going to cost me the earth especially when I'm just starting and I'm not sure how it's going to go. I'll need beauty products for the skin, cleanser, toner that kind of thing and also does anyone know of nice massage oils for face? Also products for manicures and nail paint etc.

If anyone could help with good products that I won't be stone broke over buying and where to get them would be greatly appreciated.

When I started out I used a range from Salon Services. If you know your going to do well its worth investing money into your range as its going on peoples skin.
To buy from a company there range e.g dermalogica you have to have a vat number so you have to be a registered company.
The best way is try out products from the whole saler salon services or flair and see what you think. Obviously they have to be of a high standard as people are paying you so check whats in them. There is no point spending a fortune because the way things are gone this kind of business is slowing down.
Remember you will need products for all the skins types so you have to get them all.
If you dont want to buy from a whole saler try the internet they might sell you them if your not a registered company e.g Liz Earle. Hope this helps and good luck:)

Thanks smares, I've been to Salon Services a few times but haven't picked up any of their skin care products yet so wasn't sure if they were any good. Do you know anything about the 'elemis' range, if it's pricey and where would be the best place to get it?

Its a nice range mostly used in spa's.the products are a good standard it's cheapest on the net but most places won't ship to Ireland but this site http://www.feelunique.com sells it and i think is free shipping to Ireland

Giggy, whilst you are training just use the bog standard Salon Services range...seriously, don't choice anything expensive at this stage.

You will need to make sure to get the basics for all skin types anyway so that will cost you enough.

For massage oil, you could just buy a huge bottle of grapeseed or even sunflower oil :D If you want to spend money though Salon Services have a huge bottle of almond oil or even just carrier oil.

Don't be tempted to spend, spend, spend...the course and adding stuff to your 'kit' over the year will cost you enough :)

i agree its so tempting starting out to get the best of everything but i think you should try the salon services range first and if it goes well then invest in the other range. The public won't know the salon service range so its grand;)

I actually checked my own stock last night and I have the large almond oil but I also have the Skin Basics range of massage oil so you could get either. I know someone who had a bottle of almond oil and once it was gone filled it with sunflower :D I would actually recommend the Skin Basics one over the nut one. Although it's rare you have to be conscious that someone may have a nut allergy so the almond one wouldn't be able to be used anyway.

The other thing with the 'named' brands is that they expect you to do many things before you even buy such as go on one of their own courses or buy a certain amount each month etc. They also limit the geographical area of their buyers to stop flooding the area with Elemis or whatever..

I'm definitely going to take a trip to salon services and get their products now, you're right I was getting carried away wanting all nice stuff but I'm sure the salon services stuff will cost me enough once I get everything I need. Thanks everyone for saving me money ;)
