It might be of value to make a list of Shopping Centres, Malls and private spaces in public areas that encourage photographers.

I have decided to bring my custom to such places from today.

Make sure they have your work insured is all I'll say

I don't think there are any places of the nature you mention that actively encourage photographers. On the other hand, there are places the actively discourage photos/photographers. But even then it seems dependant on such criteria as 'day of the week', 'the particular gaurd on duty' or the 'size of your camera' or some other almost irrelvant benchmark. Perhaps a blacklist would be more constructive(?).

That would burn up too much energy, in my case.

I don't do much street photography and I like photographing buildings and water features. I assume the deterrants on photography in some shopping areas is for the protection of the customers. Since I'm not interested in candid shots, I would like to draw up a list of places where photgraphy is not an issue and where I can feel comfortable.

New York city tried to initiate rules that involved photographers being covered for up to 1 million dollars while taking photos in public spaces.

There was such an outcry, the city council backed down.

Sorry I misunderstood the original post and understood you meant public places to display your photography.

Given the complexity of taking a snap in these "private spaces within a public sphere", I think I'll skip any effort to embarrass myself further. Setting up an exhibiton would probably be a nightmare.

I blogged about it this morning on Shortsights.
There is a Flickr blog dedicated to the Dundrum Centre.
Unfortunately, there is not much activitity there, as
    might be expected.

The reason for asking for a list of places that allow
photography means that I will shop at those locations
and do a bit of photography at the same time.

People often share problems, but finding a nice location
could be shared as well. There was a heron at Marlay Park
the other day and walkers told one onether where they migth get the best shots.

There are fabulous light and water features in many shopping areas and they make fine photos.

It's just a lot of hassle getting permission imo, thats all.

If you like patterns in architecture and dizzying escalators, it might be worth it.

I just wonder if anybody else here takes photos in shops, centres and places associated with commerce.
