Both my brothers dogs stayed over at my parents house the other night and attacked the recycle bin in the kitchen. They chewed up a ball of tinfoil left over from a Chinese takeaway between them, apart from the thought of it on our own teeth can it do any damage to dogs? I'm not sure if they swallowed any as there was bits of it all over the place.

Ours do this; also the collie eats her blanket. I only realised the latter when I saw bright pink in her motions:)

Never came to any harm yet. Scary though..

It is linear swallowed things that can really damage? String and wool etc.

Sorella just reading your post there, my lil fella is constantly chewing his bed and taking the stuffing out of it, never really swallows it just sort of chews it and spits it out, just wondering though he has a rope type dog toy with strings/wool at the end of it and to be honest i dont see alot of this on the floor so im presuming he is swallowing some of it, do you think i should take this off him. I bought it in a pet shop so i would presume its safe enough...

If you are worried, remove it.

I took a chewed tennis ball that was on a rope toy away for that reason; could not find enough bits.... This collie will chew cardboard happily.

Where you buy it is no guarantee:)

Think i might, just to be on the safe side...

Any suggestions on non squeaky toys... I have a kong, give him a chew bone and then the rope toy... He used to chew on a slipper but tore that to shreds, then also a sock but was told to take that off him. Finding it very hard to find toys that dont SQUEAK.................

Tired, is it just the squeaking that's an issue; would you consider other noises? My puppy's current favourite toy is a little frog that has that crinkly stuff in it- like the stuff you'd find on a baby's activity blanket. She loves it and I can barely hear it. I've seen a good few chew toys with this instead of squeakers.

Have you tried filling the Kong with peanut butter and freezing? Hours of entertainment.

I got a ball that seemed to have no squeak.... today I trod on it by accident and wow....

Try a hard rubber ball intended for our games.

I can't bear that noise either but she loves it; so just a wee while outdoors now.

00112984, yep just the squeaking, dont mind anything else, i spend a lot of time in the kitchen when i get home and i know i would flip with the squeaking. Dont get me wrong he plays with his Kong but this rope thingy would have to be his favourite, he swings it around in circles then just lets go so i need something less hard as this hurts when ya get a whack of it in the head or back while cooking. Funny though. He thinks he is great when he does this except for when it lands on the counter and he sits there crying for it.

I still havent taken it off him, he sleeps with this thing and all and if he is asleep and you even move it if its on the floor he wakes up and checks the toy to see what your doing, once again very cute and very funny... :D

I'll keep an eye out for the non squeaky toys... Thanks

Sorella had a tennis ball and rubber balls but he chucks them around the place, was afraid he would break something. Gawd its soooooooooo hard trying to keep them occupied. :)

    :D

I know! About keeping them occupied.

Blessed here that there is safe outdoor space; small dog loves to fight a twig or branch.

The squeak has died:) It was a one pound sterling black and white ball from Asda.... In a bin with other stuff. I guess I trod in it once toooften; or maybe it was the rain outside.

We give raw marrowbones also; keeps them busy a long while....

We also have had soft toys cheaply from Vincent de Paul; there was a purple octopus that went well for a long time, and softer on your head.

Oh and try an old sock knotted in the middle; he can swing that around.

An old ball of knitting yarn will also give great fun.

Blessings, and thanks for the laughter on a grey day.

Your welcome Sorella, i Know all dogs have there funny moments, believe me they out weigh the moments where you could literally kill them, he is a loveable lil fecker, cant stay angry with him for too long.

I used to give him pigs ears but the smell kept turning my stomach, pongy fecking things (am over 7 months pregnant so maybe they dont smell that bad just pregnancy senses)....

Thanks for the advice though, am gona go searching the weekend for bits and pieces for him...

    :D:D:D

    Oh YUKK!

    The pig's ears I mean.

I bet they were very popular though:)

We get all kinds of interesting scraps from a kind butcher.

The collie was half starved when we found her; thought she was part greyhound; all she got was sliced white bread and cheap tinned dog food.

So she has been re-educated... she has developed dysplasia , so gets cod liver oil and glucosamine - hidden in a cooked sausage.

    Take care now; precious months...

    Blessings

Nope- they really do smell that bad! Ugh. Hate them
The only thing worse were the "pig pizzles" I saw in a fantastic petshop near Sprucefield a few weeks ago. Pizzles are, erm, pig's willies for those who aren't familiar with the term. They're disgusting.

A knotted sock does work well. If it's for a teething puppy, dip it in water, shake and pop it in the freezer overnight. Lovely and soothing on the gums.

Old custom of using everything but the squeak and the tail...

Fair play to ya Sorella, i regret not rescuing a dog but yet i wouldnt change him, you get very attached. Pigs ears were very very very popular but smelly yokes, honestly really disgusting....

Lol @ 00112984 Pigs Pizzles, am sitting at my desking laughing my ass off, honestly I couldnt even contemplate picking one of them up and giving it to my lil fella...

Might try the sock trick tonight, thanks peeps. :D

We had no plans to rescue the collie, believe me. When we moved to a rental, she was chained up 24/7 to a 50 lb weight and alone.

It was our landlord; the Daddy had been given the dog as a pup after his wife died; he had not taken to it and had never spent a night in that house; so dog was left locked up every night ( It took months to sort the story out as we did not want to offend and get thrown out) When the Daddy died, the dog was left wandering, fed by anyone who could or would and tied up.

This had been her life for 4 years

When we realised we asked could we take care of her; they were still in grief so the dog was part of the daddy etc.

We spoke with Donegal Pet rescue; the family would never have let her go and we would have been in big trouble.

We thought she was part greyhound as she was so thin; full of worms etc, and not spayed.

By the time we moved, we had to negotiate that we brought her away with us.

They still said how much they missed her - and now they are ill treating a puppy they bought for their son.. leaving the wee spaniel chained up alone outside all day in all weathers..

So we really had little choice; but no regrets ever.

As for bizarre parts of pigs!!!

    The socks are great....

    Blessings and take care.
