Do we know the 5th?

    Is
    Ellen
really the 5th? I really don't think that the big reveal we have been waiting for is
    Ellen Tigh.

There is more going on here than meets the eye. I'm not convinced. D'anna is conveniently missing in action. The whole final 5 thing is swept under the carpet while we deal with a civil war.

I'm really really not gonna believe it until its spelt out for me!! Anyone else?

I was re-watching that season 4 episode last night where Tighe is talking to 6 and he keeps seeing his wife and something dawned on me...Doesn't Ellen Tighe look like an older version of 6? Could it be possible that she is just an older 6 model?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,788 ✭✭✭tvnutz

Ye she is the 5th. They even advertised it that way. When the four were revealed at the end of season 3 people were saying it must be a trick, its not for real, there is no way Tigh could be a Cylon, but he is. No tricks. When they reveal something like that on this show they rarely go back and change it.

That's certainly the impression I was left with after the most recent episode, but I have no idea whether it's accurate or not. That said, the writers could deliberately be stringing us along - they could be gearing up to reveal Starbuck as a Cylon as well, or even claim that all humans are Cylons. Hopefully it will become clear by the conclusion of the series, but while there are more episodes left to go I wouldn't assume anything has been conclusively resolved...

Yeah I'm not normally critical of the storyline of BSG. And I'm not criticising it now but I just hope they have an explanation as to why Tigh, Ellen, Tyrol seem to be the exact same age when they died on Earth as to the age they are now.

I know its not important because they had to show the actors as they are now to let us know it was them in the past.

I just think the reveal of Ellen as the 5th is almost a sub-plot to a more shocking story like "Everyone is a Cylon" or something like that.

I'm very confident in Ronald Moore's direction for the show so I await the answers in due course.

Ron Moore himself has confirmed that Ellen is the 5th and that he did not want to drag the reveal out for the entire 4th season but rather get it out of the way early and allow the writers to focus on the remaining story.

Also, I still don't know about this "Ellen being an older 6" theory. It could well prove true but the fact of the matter is that the Cylon civilization that rose out of the 12 colonies (as opposed to the 13th tribe) is still alrgely mysterious. We know that there are 12 models, 7 of which have mutliple copies and 5 of which were "hidden" to those 7 and apparently a different type of Cylon. I'm starting to wonder how much of this "final 5" is the writers backtracking on the original premise from the mini-series. Anyway, of the 7 cyclon models we know and have seen multiple copies of, they are all of various ages yet not one of them seems to age. Assuming there are in fact cyclons who are regular cannon fodder and live longer lives, surely then we would see an older 6, or an older 8 the odd time. Further to this, resurrection of a cylon did not have that Cylon downloaded into a younger body, but into a direct copy. I think from all this we can infer that the 7 models do not age, at least not like a normal human. However, Adama has known Tigh for what, about 20 years? So surely he would have noticed fairly early on that he wasn't aging, he even made a remark about remembering him when he had hair. All this seems to support the idea that Tigh, Ellen and the rest of the 5 are not like the other 7 (stating the obvious there, I know).

Yeah i have to say i shared the same thought as you but to be honest from what ive seen thus far the writers are very concerned on establishing a beginning, middle and end to these last few episodes. I think they just wanted to get over the whole final 5 thing as quick as possible and its al about their story now and how they came about.

True but we may find out that she was. That has yet to be explained.

She found her own body! :P

Or more plausibly the line of 6 is the genetic offspring of Ellen and Tigh. Which makes that pregnancy all the more wrong.

Right stop complaining about spoilers people. You shouldn't be in here if you don't want to know who the 5th is :P

I reckon the notion of there being a final cylon model is a misnomer, we had a vision of the past, thanks to tyrol and co. that showed a planet, Earth, full of people, all different, all apparently Cylon.
So, it does not seem that there is necessarily a 5th at all, or if there is, it has a special significance rather than being a generic, normal humanoid.
Maybe, the 5th is of a special class or something.

Starbuck has been resurrected for sure, so, is she then a Cylon?
I guess it won't be too long before all these questions are answered.

If they finish the series off and leave a load of loose ends I'm going to be well pissed.

They are not going to leave lose ends ...as such!

I've read a lot of postings across the net and a lot of them are forgetting one thing.

CAPRICA - The upcoming TV series.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caprica_(TV_series)

When Battlestar is finally over, the new series the following year will kick us back to the beginning of things.
Is the 5th revealed? Yes, I think so BUT there are some serious revelations to come that is being saved for the end.
Meanwhile we are being (quite cleverly) distracted with a civil war.

Can't think of the actual words used (someone here will remind me) but it was something along the lines "these things will happen again".
I think what the many times repeated phrase (on air) meant/means, is that we, no matter what creature we are, will turn on ourselves and through our own stupidity, will bring about our own destruction or very near to it.
    Nature of the beast etc...

As it happened as we will find out as this series ends, thats what happened to the cylons, so it happened beforehand to the humans(?) afterwards - and maybe before the creation of the cylons too!
Thats where CAPRICA maybe will beheading towards as an incorporated storyline.
At the end of the day, CAPRICA has to have a storyline so not everything is just going to be revealed.
Sure, a lot of our questions will be answered but I have no doubt, we will still be left with ones that we will have to look to the news series for.

    ***

Keep in mind also that IF we are all cyclons by the end of the series, that means humans either have been destroyed and/or they never existed in the first place!
CAPRICA will then help explain how this came about - if - this is the case.
How we, as a species, came to destroy ourselves!
Just a few thoughts but before we write off all the major secrets as revealed, I'm keeping in mind the new series which will have more stuff to reveal over time.
The whole, WHOLE thing won't be all explained. That I am sure of.

Myself and my friends were arguing this point over the weekend.

My friend (who still believes that Dee was the fifth and will return) maintains that Tigh is a malfunctioning toaster, and is imaging that Ellen was the fifth.

He's wrong, I guarantee* it. Dee is gone, Ellen is the Fifth, Starbuck died and came back.

If Dee was the 5th, then why didn't she hear the music? Why didn't Deanna contact her when she was getting the others? It makes sense for it to be Ellen. You can tell your friend he's an idiot, and laugh heartily at him when he's proven wrong, which I'm guessing will be very soon.

    *Not a guarantee

I personally think that it couldn't be Dee, however he did have some convincing arguments.

As to him being an idiot, he's anything but.

As to Starbuck, what the hell does that make her???

Just read some of the behind the scenes stuff, Kandyse McClure was not given a full season contract, Dualla is gone.

Moore has said that he wanted to reveal the identity of the 5th quickly instead of having it hang over the heads of the writers and detract from the storytelling.

    Hi,
A bit off topic but can anyone explain to me that out of the 7 known models they go

    1. Cavil
    2.Leoben
    3.D'anna
    4.Simon
    5.Doral
    6.Caprica
    7.
    8.Sharon

why is seven skipped, never figured it out???

they didnt cook up the Final 5 until Season 3 was already underway. Sharon was given an arbitrary model number well before that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,505 ✭✭✭✭DirkVoodoo

Do they refer to the Sharons as 8s? This is another one of the minor plot holes they made through the restucturing of the cylons into 7 plus 5.

I guess that means there are no 7s, since the final 5 have no model numbers.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 325 ✭✭Derek Coleman

I would love for a few minutes set aside in an episode to explain the cylon numbers but I dont think it will happen. I think its a slip up that doesn't affect the story so in the long run it won't matter but it would be nice to know.

Maybe Battlestar Galactica: The Plan, will tidy up a lot of the loose ends

The producers / creators of the show might have revealed the final cylon to be
    Ellen
but to be fair, unless they go somewhere exceptional with it, it's a bit of a let down.

It'll be far more interesting to see what they do with Starbuck.

7 was already used in Star Trek: Voyager :D

Seriously though I'm sure there is a logical explanation for it. Damned if I know what it is though at this stage.

Maybe the Hybrid is considered to be the original model 7?

Here you go sir: BSG: The plan

I meant to say that maybe the plan will tidy up some of the confusing Cylon subplots.

    Something else.... Spooky.

I don't know, that's a bit of an unknown. All I can think, is that something, or the Cylon "God" maybe, is pulling strings behind the scenes, and resurrected Starbuck into a cloned body. We will hopefully know, in just a few short weeks.

"The 5 built the Temple to Worship The One..." //Eye of Jupiter, Season 3

Its in that temple they find the Eye of Jupiter; something Kara has had ingraived into her memory since...her birth probably. She finds the Maelstrom and it takes her to Earth, and she leads humanity back to it.

Starbuck is quite probably The One that the five refer to.
