anyone know of any good vegan ice creams out there? The only one I've had was from Wicklow street, bloody expensive and not fabulous! Anyone tried the rice milk one? I'd actually make my own at this point, I'm dying!! lol

I have ice cream every day that I make myself in moments.
I keep frozen bananas in the freezer (peeled first).
I would put 4 bananas in the food processor with a variety of frozen berries and either some walnuts or coconut oil.
    Or try strawberries instead.
    I love it.
I also make it using chocolate powder, walnuts and carob powder

Swedish Glace are a good brand, as are Tofutti cones.

i'd love to try the rice milk one, but i've never come across any.
and if anyone else has any ice cream recipes, do share!!! i think i tried a home made tofu one before, but it wasn't very exciting.

Another vote for Swedish glace. The rasberry one especially.
The HB ones are ok too but not as nice as Swedish glace.

The only one I've tried was the HB chocolate one. It wasn't great, didn't taste anything like chocolate ice cream. But I did go straight from eating Ben and Jerry's to that...

Everyone in my family really likes the HB stuff.
Going to try this frozen banana tricky of Mentalmiss.
Sounds delish....be back in a few days with review.

Do you mean the soya stuff? I saw it in the supermarket but I wasn't sure whether it's vegan or not, it does list di-glycerides of fatty acids in the ingredients..

Yeeeyyyyy! I finally came across the rice milk ice cream in Health Matters in Bray. "B'Nice" Non-Dairy Rice Cream Vanilla http://www.beanieshealthfoods.co.uk/bnice.php €5.95 but well worth it.

I seem to remember the Booja Booja being a bit more expensive... Mmmm I think I need to purchase some Maple and Pecan Booja Booja :Dhttp://www.goodnessdirect.co.uk/cgi-local/frameset/brand/BOOJ.html

    Q. I’m thinking about making “ice cream” in my electric ice cream maker. I’m a vegan and don’t want to use half-and-half in the dessert. Can you suggest a substitute?

    A. When I make homemade vegan ice cream, I sometimes use oat or almond milk because they are both sweeter and thicker than rice or soy milk. Another super base can be made from raw cashews—just grind them to a powder in your blender and add water until you reach the consistency that you like. For some terrific recipes for vegan ice cream, check out the book Vice Cream, by Jeff Rogers.

Why not have sorbets instead? Haagen-Dazs(sp?) and Ben and Jerry's sorbets are all vegan. And yummy.

Sorbets?! This I have to look into! I've never noticed them before. Are they usually available in large supermarkets? Though, with all the reduction in stock available in most places these days...

    Yes!

And a lot of restaurants on the continent are big into sorbets. The one thing to watch out for though is that there is sometimes egg white in sorbets, but not too often (it's usually just the cheaper rubbishy ones that have egg white).
