US postal forwarding

Trying to buy goods from online retails that only deliver to the states/not here.

I was having a look at this thread here
(didn't want to dig it up as it is a year old)
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055204527

about a company called globalconnections. The service offered is US postal forwarding i.e. buy from the states online, deliver to her in the states and she forwards it on to you for a small fee and you pay for the postal charges.

Is there a way I can do this with this company or any other that specifically:
    1. Using an Irish credit card
    2. They will forward the packages using the US Postal Service
    3. NOT using the big courier companies DHL FedEx UPS etc (for obvious reasons)

Can anyone give me some advice here? I want to buy a laptop, and the US prices are a steal in comparison to our special "Irish Consumer Tax" prices

    Much obliged...

Global connections has recieved very mixed reviews on several boards.ie threads now. I used them a few years ago and found them very good but there have been several problems with them since then such as slow delivery and lack of response to emails etc. There are other services out there though. Some are mentioned in this thread

If I was you I'd google for reviews on all of them before I'd part with my money.

In response to your questions :

1/ Yes. As long as the company you wish to buy from accept Irish credit cards you can do this. If they do not there are several mail forwarding services who will purchase what you want online with their credit card for a small fee.
You can certainly engage the services of any mail forwarding company with an Irish CC. Most of them will also take paypal.

2/Some companies will let you specify whatever postal method you want. I think globalconnections will allow you do this. I'm sure others will too. You'd need to contact them and make sure however.

With an order for something as large and expensive as a laptop you'd definitely be taking a big chance where import duty and tax are concerned once it arrives in Ireland.

You could also try ishop-america.com. I know a few people that ordered clothes & the like from them & got them within 14-21 days. They have a wide range of items & you can also specify by the items weblink for an item or brand that isn't listed.
