I'm considering buying a friesian Gelding from Holland & getting it transported over. They have a good website which shows video's of the horse been riden. Do you think this is a good/bad idea. Thanks

Its a good idea as long as you go there and ride the horse if it's broken. AND if you get an independant vet to check soundness.

He's broken alright, i've watched loads of video's of him been riden. They say he comes vetted

I would never buy unless I had seen the horse myself in action and had my own vet to look at him.

I'd always prefer to ride a horse at least once before I bought it, so that I could know whether or not it was suited to me.
As some of the other posters have mentioned, it would also be a good idea to get the horse independently vetted (and preferably with you there), regardless of whether or not he comes with a cert already.

I was intending on a trip there first, to try out the horse. They seem to be much cheaper & widely available. I've been quoated 750-1000 euro for transport over, & flights are very cheap also. Maybe worth a look anyway!:D

We bought our Friesian online. Make sure the company come highly reccomended. I was in contact with <snip>, wasn't too impresed to be honest.

We have no regrets buying direct from Holland. Our mare is way more than we expected. And was easily organised.

I was in contact with the seller for a month. I didnt buy untill I was 100% happy and satisfied with answers.

I find Dutch people straight, if they it they mean it kinda thing.

Best of luck and go for it.

Mod edit: Please PM the poster for details
