Does anyone know what products are provided at the energy stations in the Belfast Marathon? Doing this as my first marathon and have never used gels etc before so basically wanted to try out whichever ones they use so I won't be caught short on the day and end up trying something I have never tested before.

I sent an e-mail last week but still waiting on a reply and can see nothing on the website except for Deep River Rock.

    Cheers

They don't procide gels as far as I can see and they didn't when I did it in 2005 but that's a long time ago now. As far as I can remember it was powerade or gatorade provided at the energy drink stations.

The water stations were great though, lots of water and they will have a fast flowing tap to fill your bottle if you wish.

didn't have them in 2006 either. You will probably have to carry your own. Personally I can't stomach the gels so you are right to try them in training first

They only have enegry drink stations on the route from what I've read. So you'll need to bring your own Gels.

    Thank you for contacting me.

In terms of energy stations, we will have 3 and maybe a fourth one positioned all around the route. At the energy stations powerade will be provided.

I look forward to seeing you on race day

    Best wishes

    Claire

Dont take this as gospel. I ran last years Marathon and only remember seing 2 Stations. Powerade that I hadnt tried before and it didnt look the best so skipped it. I was later told one had run out and was being stocked after I passed not sure if it was just me missed the others. I took a gel for every hour I thought I would run and a few extra for good measure. Better taken extra they arent heavy and make a big difference.

Not saying the Belfast isnt well run but I missed things due to crowd etc.

I will be doing this years again and hoping to better my time. As it was my first and I didnt know what to expect I took it far to easy. The 3 Mile up hill antrim road section wasnt as bad as I had been told. Gideons green to Corporation street is the hardest part. No crowd and just as the pain is starting. Grit the teeth and bore through this bit the crowds from there on in help you through it.

    Good luck
