Has anyone ever worked as one or heard anything good/bad about it? I've come across a job as one and am really interested. Be great to hear some feedback :)

I signed up with two companies as a mystery shopper exactly a year ago. I have never got an email about any available jobs. Every week I apply for every single job available on the companies' websites in any of the counties near me. Sometimes I have been left waiting 3 or 4 weeks only to get an email saying that the job has been assigned to another shopper. Other times I hear nothing.

Long story short; in the year that I've been a registered mystery shopper I have only been assigned one job. I was notified about it at last minute and couldn't do it. My sister also had the same experience with another company. It seems they hire people but never assign jobs except to their 'regulars'.

That is not to say you will have the same experience but don't apply for it thinking you will be able to rely on it for a regular income.

I also worked for 3 years with 2 companies as well as working full time, the money would only be a supplementary income.

I did on average one visit every 2 months, pay was between €20 and €60 before expenses.

Don't be fooled into thinking its getting paid to shop!

It's more like doing a floor walk in a store and going back outside and detailing everything you saw and what happened.

They require a massive amount of information.

Also this often has to be sent back to the company by email the same day so all in all it could take you 4hrs to complete a visit.

Working in customer service or retail is a massive advantage as you are more likly to spot the detail the marketing companies are looking for.

The more visits you do the more work you are offered. When jobs were asigned to me the person also had my previous visits available on screen when they were discussing what they wanted.

All in all I would recommend it as a extra income, but in this climate I'd don't know of 1 single company that has a regular contract with a mystery shopping co.
